그림책에 나타난 자아와 세계 연구 - 『무지개 물고기』, 『줄무늬가 생겼어요』, 『토마니가 사는 법』을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Ego and the World in Picture Books with The Rainbow Fish, A Bad Case of Stripes, Das Leben der Tomanis)

초록

자아는 세계와 끊임없이 관계를 맺는다. 문학에 나타나는 자아와 세계의 긴장은 그 양상에 따라 주제의식을 드러내게 된다. 자신을 사회적 존재로 인식하기 시작하는 아동의 연령은 대략 6세인데, 이 시기 아동들의 문학은 그림책이다. 본 연구의 목적은 자기 이해가 형성되는 시기의 어린이들을 독자로 하는 그림책에서 자아와 세계의 관계가 어떻게 나타나고 있는지를 분석하고, 이를 통해 드러나는 주제의식을 검토하는 것이었다.
이에 자아와 세계의 대립 관계가 뚜렷하게 나타나는 그림책 중 마르쿠스 피스터의 무지개 물고기, 데이빗 섀논의 줄무늬가 생겼어요, 크리스티네 뇌스틀링거의 토마니가 사는 법, 이 세 권을 선별하여 분석하는 작업을 통해 자아가 세계와 관계를 맺는 양상을 살펴보았다.
무지개 물고기에서는 자아가 사회적 힘으로부터 자신을 보호하고, 끝내 세계의 구성원으로 무사히 진입하기 위해 욕망을 억압하고 복종의 방식을 택하고 있었다. 줄무늬가 생겼어요의 자아는 사회적 힘을 의식해 스스로 억압한 욕망을채우고자 끊임없이 시도하는 모습을 보여주었다. 또 욕망과 세계와의 관계 사이에서 안정적인 긴장감을 유지하고 있었다. 두 그림책에 나타난 자아가 세계와의 관계에서의 안정감을 추구하였다면, 토마니가 사는 법의 자아는 세계의 이데올로기를 뛰어넘고자 하는 유토피아적 상상력을 보여주었다. 아나키즘적 가치관을 바탕으로 자아의 욕망을 억압하는 세계를 넘어서고자 시도하고 있다고 분석되었다.
아동 문학은 세계에 좌절하고 때로는 극복하며 자아를 형성해 나가는 인물을보여줌으로써 아동의 욕망을 자극함과 동시에 자아와 세계와의 관계를 다양한 형태로 보여줄 필요가 있다. 특히 사회적 관계를 통해 자아를 형성하는 중기 아동들의 문학인 그림책은 세계를 인식하고, 자아를 형성해 나가는 데에 자극이 되어야한다. 그림책이 가지는 문학적 가치란 여기에서 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는세 권의 그림책을 통해 그림책이 갖는 이러한 문학적 가치를 인식하고 검토해보는데에 의의를 두었다.

영어초록

The ego forms a constant relationship with the world. The tension of the ego and the world, which both appear in the literature, reveals theme consciousness depending on the aspect. It is approximately 6 years old when the child who beings to recognize himself as a social being. The literature for children during this period refers to a picture book. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the relationship between the ego and the world appears in the picture book aimed at children as readers, who are at the time when a self-understanding is formed and to review the theme consciousness revealed through this.
To that end, of the picture books where the confrontation relationship between the ego and the world, three were selected: Rainbow Fish of Markus Pfister, A Bad Case of Stripes of David Shannon, and Das Leben der Tomanis of Nostlinger Christine. Then, the aspect where the ego forms a relationship with the world was examined through the work of selecting and analyzing the three books.
In Rainbow Fish, the ego chose the way of repressing desire and being subject to protect himself from social forces and to enter the world safely as its member.
The ego in A Bad Case of Stripes showed the appearance that constantly tries to fill a repressed desire for himself being conscious of social forces and maintained a stable tension in the relationship between desire and the word. Unlike that the ego that has appeared in the two books sought the stability in the relationship between the ego and the world, the ego in Das Leben der Tomanis was analysed to show a utopian imagination to try to go beyond the world that oppresses his desire, based on the value of anarchism.
Children's literature is required to stimulate the desire of children and to show them the relationship between the ego and the world in a variety of forms by presenting them the figure who is frustrated with the world or overcomes it sometimes, or forms the ego. Especially the picture books as the literature of the children in the middle period should be stimulated to be aware of the world and to form the ego. This is where the value of the picture books lies. This study gave a significance in that it tried to recognize and to consider the literary value found through the three picture books.
