양태조동사 ‘能’의 하위분류 및 주어와의 공기특성 분석 (Sub-classification of “Neng” as a Modality Auxiliary Verb and Analysis of the Co-occurrence Properties with Subjects)

초록

본고는 현대중국어 양태조동사 ‘能(neng)’의 주어와의 공기양상 분석을 통해 ‘能(neng)’의 어법 특성을 고찰한 연구이다. 먼저, ‘能(neng)’의 양태기능을 근거로 하위 분류를 진행했다. 동적양태는 크게 ‘[능력]’, ‘[조건]’, ‘[용도]’가 있으며, ‘[능력]’은 정도에 따라, ‘[强-능력]’과 ‘[弱-능력]’으로 분류되고 ‘[强-능력]’은 다시 ‘[强능력, 재능]’과 ‘[强능력, 재주]’로, ‘[弱-능력]’은 다시 ‘[弱능력, 역량]’과 ‘[弱능력, 잠재력]’으로 세부 분류된다. ‘[조건]’은 실현 여부에 대한 결정이 어디에 달려 있느냐에 따라, ‘[조건, 주관]’과 ‘[조건, 객관]’으로 분류된다. 당위양태는 크게 ‘[허락]’과 ‘[허가]’로 분류되고, ‘[허가]’는 허가하는 주체나 대상에 따라 ‘[허가, 수용]’과 ‘[허가, 규범]’으로 다시 세부 분류된다. 인식양태는 화자가 표현하고자 하는 실현 가능성의 정도에 따라 ‘[추측]’과 ‘[가능]’으로 분류된다.
다음으로 본고에서는 ‘能(neng)’의 하위분류를 토대로 주어와의 공기특성에 대해 살펴보았는데, 동적양태의 ‘능력’은 모든 생물 주어와 공기가 가능하고 무생물 주어와는 공기 불가능하다. ‘조건’은 ‘주관’인 경우 생물 주어와 공기가능하고 무생물 주어와는 공기 불가능하다. ‘객관 조건’의 경우는 ‘주관 조건’과 상보적인 분포를 보였다. 당위양태의 경우는 ‘허락’과 ‘허가, 수용’은 상보적인 분포를 보였으며, ‘허가, 규범’은 모든 주어와 공기가 가능하다. 인식양태의 경우 대부분 모든 주어와 공기가 가능했으며, 다만 ‘추측’의 경우 1인칭 주어와 공기 불가능하다. 결론적으로 ‘能(neng)’은 동적양태와 당위양태의 경우 주어에 따라 공기양상이 다양하게 나타나고, 인식양태의 경우 주어와의 공기 제약을 거의 받지 않는다는 것을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper is a study which considered the properties of “neng” through the analysis of the co-occurrence properties with subjects of “neng” as a modality auxiliary verb of modern Chinese. Above all, based on the modality functions of “neng”, the subdivision was processed. In dynamic modality, there are largely “ability”, “conditions”, and “use”. “Ability” is classified into “strong ability” and “weak ability” according to the degree. “Strong ability” is assorted into “strong ability: skill” and “strong ability: talent”, and “weak ability” is assorted into “weak ability: capability” and “weak ability: potential” in detail. “Conditions” are classified into “conditions: subjective” and “conditions: objective” according to whether the decision to be realized or not is dependent on what direction. Deontic modality is sorted into “permission” and “authorization”. “Authorization” is sorted into “authorization: acceptance” and “authorization: norms” according to subjects and objects to authorize in detail again. Epistemic modality is classified into “speculation” and “possibility”.
Next, in the paper, based on the sub-classification of “neng”, whether there is co-occurrence with subjects or not were examined. “Ability” of dynamic modality is possible for co-occurrence with all animate subjects in case of “subjective things”. It is impossible for co-occurrence with inanimate subjects. In case of “objective conditions”, they showed complimentary distribution with “subjective conditions”. In case of deontic modality, “permission” and “authorization: acceptance” showed complimentary distribution. “Authorization: norms” is possible for co-occurrence with all subjects. In case of deontic modality, it was mostly possible for co-occurrence with all subjects. But, in case of “supposition”, it is impossible for co-occurrence with the first-person subjects. In conclusion, in “neng”, in case of dynamic modality and deontic modality, aspects of co-occurrence are represented differently according to subjects. Also, it can be known that in case of epistemic modality, it is not under the restriction of co-occurrence with subjects.
