초록

Introduction of Small Media - like cellular phone, camera phone, and bluetooth which connects cellular phone and other digital instruments to the computer - into Saudi Arabia has made big changes in Saudi social communication. With introduction of this kind of new media which overpass the state control, social and religious taboos in Saudi society have been challenged one by one in the cyber space.
Cyber space of new media is originally dynamic, open, unstratified, and laissez-faire. People can express themselves freely in the open cyber space which surpasses the time and space limits. Saudi youth who have been bound by strict norms and rules according to Wahabism find their liberated area to express anonymously their restricted wishes and desires through internet, cellular phone and bluetooth.
In second chapter, I will try to study how the new media have been spread in Saudi society and how the Saudi government has tried to restrict and control them. And then I will focus on Saudi youth's confused identity in new media era. In third chapter, I will study how the youth challenge the established social orders by circulating video files taken by camera phones through bluetooth and internet web-sites. I've relied on 166 bluetooth video files collected in Saudi Arabia during the field work which has done from 7th to 21th January, 2007.
