하이데거의 눈에 비친 현대인의 삶과 교육: 경이의 떠남과 교육의 퇴락 (Heideggerian Interpretations on Human Life and Education in the Modern Era)

초록

현대의 교육은 이전 시대의 교육과는 완전히 다르다. 그것은 주위에 존재하는 모든 것들을 경이로운 눈으로 바라보던 인간이 이 세상에서 사라지고, 자신의 의욕과 욕망을 앞세우면서 모든 것을 도구로 사유하는 현대인들이 등장함으로써 생겨난 것이다. 따라서 현대의 교육에 대한 반성적인 진단과 새로운 방향의 모색은 현대라는 시대가 생겨난 원천과 유래 자체에 대한 철저한 반성과 비판 속에서 이루어져야 한다. 그렇지 못할 때, 그것은 현대의 교육을 외형적인 형태만 바꿔서 재연하는 미봉책에 그칠 뿐이다. 이와 관련하여 유용한 통찰을 제공하는 것이 하이데거의 존재 사유이다. 존재를 망각하고 존재자만을 표상적으로 사유하면서 이를 변형과 조작이 가능한 대상으로 드러내는 서양 형이상학의 자연스러운 귀결이 현대의 과학-기술이다. 그리고 이것이 바로 지식의 상품화와 교육의 도구화를 특징으로 하는 현대의 교육을 낳는다. 하이데거의 사유는 경이라는 근본 기분이 인간의 곁을 떠남으로 말미암아 초래된 현대의 살풍경한 모습과 그 현대의 한 가운데서 퇴락해 버린 교육의 모습을 분석할 수 있는 틀을 제시한다. 더 나아가 하이데거의 존재 사유는 우리가 망각하고 있는 교육의 본래적인 모습이 어떤 것인지를 그 이면에 숨기면서 간직하고 있다. 이를 적절한 말과 언어로 드러냄으로써 현대의 교육을 치유할 수 있는 길을 찾아야 한다.

영어초록

Everything is being uncovered only to be instruments or raw materials for human desire and material life in modern times. Many people have warned that these modern trends would bring humans to an unprecedented crisis. According to Heidegger, these modern trends are the result of western traditional metaphysics. Western metaphysics has misunderstood what it means for something to be, answering this question in terms of beings, rather than asking about Being itself. As the result of this misdirected approach, everything has lost its own unique essence and been revealed simply to be instruments.
Human ancestors had eyes to see the whole universe of beings in wonder, because they considered everything had its own essence. They thought humans had unique responsibility to uncover that essence. But modern men totally lost their ancestors' abilities to see everything in wonder. According to Heidegger, the essence of modern times or modern technology is the conversion of the whole universe of beings into an undifferentiated "standing reserve" (Bestand) of energy available for any use to which humans choose to put it. Heidegger described the essence of modern era as Gestell ("enframing"). As a necessary consequence of Gestell, education has totally been transformed to be means to get higher socioeconomic status.
According to Heidegger, human being is Dasein, who has already an understanding of Being, can ask what Being is. Dasein is only the being who gives each Being to every being in the world and can put beings into the light of truth of Being. In this respect, Dasein is being in the world and truth of Being. Heidegger suggested that education came from Dasein's care (Sorge) for his own possibilities and solicitude (Fürsorge) for other people's possibilities. Care and solicitude are essential parts of Being of Dasein. Education and Dasein belong together. This study tried to uncover the authentic education concealed in Heidegger's thought of Being and described it with new educational words such as ascending education(上求) and descending education(下化). Although the results of this study are far from perfection, it critically analyzed our modern life and education in the perspective of Heidegger, and suggested authentic education forgotten by modern men. This result is expected to be helpful for finding the way to overcome modern education.
