초록

이글에서는 드라마 ｢여명의 눈동자｣에 투영된 강제동원 서사를 살펴보기 위하여 사이판 섬 동원 묘사 부분을 분석하여 보았다. 이런 분석을 통하여 역사적 사실이 상상력의 산물인 창작물에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 살펴봄으로써 양자의 공존을 모색해보고자 하였다.
역사학이 창작물과 만날 때 가장 곤란한 것은 ‘허구’라는 점이다. ｢여명의눈동자｣도 마찬가지이다. 그 전제부터 거의 허구에 가깝다는 점을 알 수 있다. 그렇다고 하여 드라마에 그려진 최대치와 장하림의 고투가 모두 허구이고 완전한 창작이라고 볼 수도 없다. 드라마에 사용된 여러 에피소드는 실제학병의 체험을 기반으로 만들어졌기 때문이다.
｢여명의 눈동자｣에 그려진 사이판 섬 동원 묘사에서도 동일한 경향성이 발견된다. 즉 드라마에서 묘사된 사이판으로 이동한 일본군, 일본군위안소의 존재, 전후 설치된 포로수용소 등은 모두 역사적 사실을 기반으로 하고 있는 것이다. 그러나 세부적인 내용으로 들어가면 실제와는 다르게 묘사된 점이 많다. 사실에 기반한 허구라는 것이다.
명백한 역사적 사실임에도 드라마에서는 투영되지 못한 점도 있다. 사이판의 경우 전쟁시기 천수백명에 달하는 조선인 노무자들이 있었고, 전쟁에 임박하여 동원되었던 조선인 군속도 많았다. 그러나 드라마에는 전혀 투영되지 못하였다. 역사학이 창작자들에게 적확한 사실을 제공하지 못하였기 때문에 나타난 현상으로 읽을 수 있다는 점에서 양자의 공존을 위해 필요한 것이무엇인지 알려주는 대목으로 생각된다.
｢여명의 눈동자｣는 한국 TV드라마에서 새로운 이정표를 세운 작품이었다. 세월의 틈을 건너 여전히 많은 사람들이 기억하고 있고, 그들의 뇌리에 한국근현대사 관련 이미지를 형성하는데 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 그런만큼 드라마에 투영되어 있는 한국근현대사의 실상, 좁혀서는 조선인 강제동원 문제에 대한 비판적 검토와 접근이 필요할 것이다.

영어초록

In this article, we analyzed the part depicting the mobilization of Saipan Island in order to examine the narrative of forced mobilization projected in the drama “Eyes of Dawn.” Through this analysis, we attempted to explore the coexistence of the two by examining how historical facts affect creative works that are products of imagination.
The most difficult thing when history meets creative works is that it is “fiction.” “Eyes of Dawn” is no different. We can see that the premise itself is almost fiction. However, we cannot say that the struggles of Choi Dae-chi and Jang Ha-rim depicted in the drama are all fiction and completely creative. This is because many episodes used in the drama were created based on the experiences of actual student soldiers.
The same tendency is found in the depiction of the mobilization of Saipan Island depicted in “Eyes of Dawn.” In other words, the Japanese army moving to Saipan, the existence of Japanese military comfort stations, and the POW camps established after the war are all based on historical facts. However, when we go into the details, there are many points that are depicted differently from reality. This means that it is fiction based on facts.
There are also some obvious historical facts that are not reflected in the drama. In the case of Saipan, there were hundreds of Korean laborers during the war, and many Korean military personnel were mobilized in anticipation of the war. However, this was not reflected at all in the drama. It can be interpreted as a phenomenon that occurred because history failed to provide accurate facts to the creators, and it is thought to be a passage that shows what is necessary for the coexistence of the two.
“Eyes of Dawn” was a work that set a new milestone in Korean TV dramas.
Many people still remember it despite the gap in time, and it had a great influence on forming images related to modern and contemporary Korean history in their minds. Therefore, a critical review and approach to the reality of modern and contemporary Korean history projected in the drama, specifically the issue of forced mobilization of Koreans, is necessary
