모래놀이치료 사례의 캠벨 영웅 신화론에 의한 분석 (An Analysis of the Sandplay Process by the Hero Myth of Campbell)

초록

본 연구는 모래놀이치료과정에 나타난 다양한 이미지들을 좀 더 쉽고 전체적인 맥락 속에서 이해하는데 도움이 될 수 있는 해석적 틀을 찾기 위해 Campbell의 영웅신화론을 소개하고 이를 적용해 모래놀이치료과정을 분석하기 위한 것이다. 모래놀이에서는 많은 심층적이고 상징적 이미지들이 출현하며 그 내용은 마치 신화의 내용과 같다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 Campbell 영웅신화의 심리학적 의미를 고찰해 보고 우리나라 아동의 모래놀이치료과정에 Campbell의 영웅신화론을 적용해 이해하고 분석해 보는 해석학적 입장의 사례연구를 하였다.
사례연구의 대상은 본 연구자가 치료한 내담아동 중 모래놀이치료를 한 여아 1명(9세)이었다. 아동의 모래놀이치료과정에 캠벨 영웅신화를 적용해 분석해 본 결과 기본적으로 출발, 입문, 귀환이란 3가지 커다란 흐름으로 진행되고 있으며 치료과정에서 나타나는 정신의 발달과정을 이해하고 조망할 수 있는 효과적인 틀이 될 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구결과에 그치지 않고 추후연구를 통해 남 녀간에 차이가 있는지, 다양한 연령층과 다양한 문제를 가진 내담자에게 적용할 때에도 캠벨영웅신화가 모래놀이치료과정에서 적절하고 타당한 해석적 틀이 될 수 있는지를 검증하기 위한 시도가 계속되어야 할 것이다. 이 논문은 모래놀이치료의 발달과정을 보는 또 하나의 틀로서 Campbell의 영웅신화를 소개하고 이를 도입해 모래놀이치료과정을 해석한 최초의 논문이란 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

This is a hermeneutical case study to analyse and interpret the sandplay process by the Hero Myth of Campbell (monomyth). Mythic themes are frequently apparent in the sandplay content. The overall sandplay process is mythic, as it holds the psyche's movement toward wholeness. Thus, it is necessary to find the mythic paradigm to explain and interpret the overall sandplay process.
Firstly, this study is to consider the psychological implications of the Hero Myth of Campbell. Secondly, this case study is to analyse and interpret the sandplay process of two children by the Hero Myth (monomyth).
The subjects of this study were a 7 years old boy and a 9 years old girl with whom the researcher worked sandplay therapy.
According to Campbell, a hero is someone who can battle through his personal and regional historical limitations to the generally valid and normally human forms. The mythological hero is an archetypal image of an ordinary man or woman. The universal mythological formula of the adventure of the Hero is departure, initiation and return. It is the psychological implication of the Hero Myth that the stages of the hero's adventure are the same as the process of the transformation of the human psyche. The Hero sets forth from his common world and enters the special inner world, and confronts and struggles with his positive and negative inner images in the deep, unconscious level of the psyche. When he arrives at the nadir of the mythological round, he undergoes a supreme ordeal and gains his reward - sacred marriage, father atonement, and apotheosis. Finally, He integrates the two worlds and returns with his life-transmitting trophy to the ordinary life. The boon that he brings restores the world. He gains an insight and awareness of the wisdom of life, expansion of his consciousness and existence, and genuine freedom.
The role of the therapist is the same as the shaman or the priest. The therapist should be a person who can integrate the polarity of human psyche with the private and public characteristics of them.
It was confirmed that the overall process of the sandplay in this case study was the same as the stages of the hero's adventure by the Hero Myth. Therefore, it was proved that the Hero Myth is an effective framework for an understanding and interpreting of the sandplay process of children.
Further research should be followed with many different subjects to generalize this finding.
