초록

본고는 1525년 曺伸(1454-1528 혹은 1529. 字 叔度, 號 適菴)이 지은 謏聞 錄에 대한 校勘·譯註이다. 교감과 역주의 臺本으로 삼은 판본은 다음의 다섯 종류이다. 우선, ① 李佑成 編 謏聞 錄(이하 서벽외사본), ② 일본 동양문고 소장본 謏聞 錄(이하 동양문고본) 등이다. 다음으로, ③ 金鑢가 엮고 주석한 寒皐觀外史(이하 한고관외사본), 1821년에 ④ 沈魯崇이 엮은 靜嘉堂本 大東稗林(이하 대동패림본), 1821년 이후 편찬된 ⑤ 稗林(이하 패림본) 등에 각각 수록된 謏聞瑣錄이다.
소문쇄록의 판본은 ①②와 ③④⑤ 크게 두 계열로 나뉜다. 널리 알려진 대로 전자의 계열(서벽외사본 계열)이 현재 유포되고 있는 판본 중 가장 原本에 가깝다. 본고는 ‘서벽외사본 계열’로는 上卷의 절반, 후자인 ‘한고관외사 계열’로는 1권에 해당하는, 총 77則(한고관외사본 계열 기준. 서벽외사본 계열 기준으로는 총 75칙)의 기사에 대한 교감과 역주이다. 다만 현전하는 한고관외사에는 ‘대동패림본’과 ‘패림본’의 소문쇄록 1권에 해당하는 부분이 落卷이므로, 본 교감·역주 1에 한하여 ‘한고관외사본’을 제외하고 ①②/④⑤를 대본으로 삼아 교감·역주하였다.
그 결과 구성의 측면에서 다음과 같은 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 우선, 筆記는 ‘사건이나 史實, 인물의 言行, 세상 만물’ 중 어떤 대상에 무게를 두었느냐에 따라 개별 단락의 성격을 ‘記事/記人/記物’로 나눌 수 있다. 본 교감·역주 1의 경우 각 범주에 해당하는 단락의 수는 한고관외사 계열 기준으로 ‘記事(36칙)/記人(19칙)/記物(22칙)’이었다. 다음으로, 서술 양상의 경우 ‘시간의 흐름에 따른 사건의 전개와 중첩’을 敍事로, ‘논의나 고증에 무게를 둔 서술’을 敎述로 나누어 보았다. 그 결과 본고는 ‘敍事(35칙) / 敎述(42칙)’으로 구성되어 있었다. 마지막으로, 詩를 ‘본격적 비평과 고증의 대상’으로 다루거나 ‘서사를 진행하는 계기’로 삼은 서술, 즉 詩話가 총 25칙이었다.
이미 『소문쇄록』이 完譯·公刊되어 있어 번역에 도움을 받았다. 하지만 기존 번역서와 번역에 대한 생각이 늘 같지만은 않았다. 아울러 정확한 번역을 위해서는 교감이, 분명한 내용 이해를 위해서는 주석이 반드시 필요하다. 따라서 본 교감과 역주는, 적어도 정확한 번역과 분명한 이해로 가는 참조 준거의 의미는 있으리라 생각한다.

영어초록

This paper is the proofreading, translation, and commentary of Miscellaneous words and trifles(謏聞 錄) completed in 1525 by Jo, sin(曺伸). The following five types of editions were used as scripts for proofreading, translation, and commentary. ① Miscellaneous words and trifles edited by Lee, Woo-seong(李佑成) has beem handed down, and there is ② Miscellaneous words and trifles owned by Dongyang Bookstore in Japan. And ③ Miscellaneous words and trifles in Hangogwanoesa(寒皐觀外史) edited and commented on by Kim, Ryeo(金鑢), and ④ Miscellaneous words and trifles in Jeonggadangbon Daedongpaerim(靜嘉堂本 大東稗林) compiled by Sim, Ro-sung(沈魯崇) in 1821, and there are ⑤ Miscellaneous words and trifles included in paerim(稗林) compiled after 1821.
The editions of Miscellaneous words and trifles are largely divided into ①② and ③④⑤. As is widely known, the former series is the closest to the original among the editions currently circulating. This paper is a proofreading, translation, and commentary for a total of 75 articles(based on the ①② series, a total of 77 articles based on the ③④⑤ series), which correspond to half of the upper half of the ①② series and one volume of the latter ③④⑤ series. However, since the part corresponding to volume 1 of Miscellaneous words and trifles in ④⑤ is not transmitted in ③, which is now handed down, The proofreading, translation, and commentary of Miscellaneous words and trifles 1 used ①②/④⑤ as a script and proofread, translated, and commented.
As a result, the following facts were confirmed in terms of composition. First of all, the characteristics of individual paragraphs can be divided into ‘records about events / records about people / records about things’ depending on which object among ‘events or historical facts, words and actions of characters, and all things in the world’ is weighted. In this case, the number of paragraphs corresponding to each category was ‘records about events(36 paragraphs) / records about people (19 paragraphs) / records about things (22 paragraphs)’ based on the ④⑤ series.
Next, in the case of descriptive aspect, ‘development and overlap of events over time’ was divided into narrative description, and ‘narrative focusing on discussion or historical research’ was divided into thematic description. As a result, this paper consisted of ‘narrative description(35 paragraphs) / thematic description(42 paragraphs)’. Lastly, there were a total of 25 paragraphs, that is, note on poetry, in which poetry was treated as ‘an object of full-scale criticism and historical research’ or ‘an opportunity to progress a narrative’.
The entire Miscellaneous words and trifles has already been translated and published, so translation was helpful. However, the existing translation and the idea of translation were not always the same. In addition, proofreading is essential for accurate translation. And translation and commentary is essential for clear understanding. Therefore, I think that this proofreading, translation, and commentary, at least, have the meaning of reference criteria that lead to accurate translation and clear understanding.
