월북 작곡가 김순남의 노랫말로 전유된 시세계의 의의 - 문학치료의 탐색을 위하여 (The Significance of North Korean Defector Kim Soon Nam's Transformation of the World of Poetry Through Song -A Quest for Literary Therapy)

초록

한국에서의 해방공간(1946~1950)에서의 음악과 시의 상호텍스성(intertextuality)을 내재한 영향력 있는 음악가와 시는 과연 무엇이었을까. 시대적 아픔과 트라우마를 치료하기 위해 시에 곡을 붙여 분열되고 상실된 서사를 치유하는 것이야말로 해방공간에서의 문학치료가 관심을 기울여야 할 영역이기도 하다. 이는 해방공간에서 노래로 불린 시들을 살펴봄으로써 해방공간이라는 특수한 상황이 미치는 개인의 서사로부터 집단적·사회적·국가적 트라우마 서사를 건강하게 회복시키는 작업일 것이다.
김순남은 근현대사에서 가장 두각을 나타냈으나 우리역사에서 잊혀진 월북 천재음악가로 2017년은 그가 탄생한 지 100주년이 되는 해이다. 김순남은 이제 시문학에서도 살펴보아야 할 의미 있는 월북 작곡가임에 분명하다. 왜냐하면 그의 음악세계가 해방공간을 고스란히 음계로 담아내고 있다는 점, 그 음계가 시인의 시세계를 바탕으로 하고 있다는 점, 그리고 그의 노랫말을 통해 음악과 시의 상호성의 연구영역이 확장될 수 있다는 점에서 그 이유를 찾을 수 있다. 김순남은 월북 시인들의 시를 가지고 작곡하였다.
본고는 1948년 4월 15일 아문각에서 발행된 김순남의 가곡 중 월북시인과 김소월의 시세계를 통하여 노래로 전치된 시의 문학치료(literary therapy)적 의의를 살펴보았다. 그 내용을 정리하면, 1. 김북원의 「철공소」, 박노춘의 「탱자」를 삶의 리얼리티를 실사를 뽑듯이 나열하였으며, 2. 오장환의 「양」, 박노춘의 「탱자」는 자연에서 그 제재를 취했지만 옴짝달싹 할 수 없는 갑갑한 현실과 자유로운 자연의 순리를 대조적으로 드러내고 있어 작곡가의 비극적 정조를 깊이 드러내고 있다. 3. 김소월의 「산유화」와 「진달래꽃」을 통해서 당대의 민족정서를 고양시켜 정체성 회복을 촉구하는 의도로 시와 노래의 연관성을 살펴보았다.
작곡가가 어떤 가사를 선택했다는 것은 그가 가진 정서와 가치관을 듣는 사람에게 전이시키고, 또한 유추할 수 있게 가늠한다. 우리에게 정치적 이유로 금지되어야하는 문학이나 예술작품이 있다는 것은 아직 우리 사회 전반에 정서적, 가치관적 상처가 존재한다는 것이다. 이러한 상흔은 편견을 낳고, 그 편견은 또 다른 상처를 낳는다. 반대로, 해금이 된다는 것은 한 사회가 어떠한 부분이 치료가 되었거나, 되어가고 있다는 반증이기도 하다. 작품의 예술적 가치와 창작자의 개인적 평가가 온전히 분리될 수는 없으며, 냉정한 인물 평가와 작품 평가가 동시에 이루어지는 것은 거시적 문학치료의 시발점이 될 수 있다.
텍스트와 멜로디의 상호텍스트성이 문학치료에 시너지를 가져오는 것처럼, 두 창작물에 대한 감상과 이해가 시대에 대한 역사적 성찰, 창작자에 대한 입체적 성찰과 이해로 심화될 수 있다. 성찰과 이를 바탕으로 한 작품들의 감상이 문학 치료적 관점에서 창작자들에게 영향을 받은 관련된 모든 사람들과 격정에 반세기 동안 누적된 우리 사회의 정서적, 가치관적 치료가 동시에 이루어질 수 있다.

영어초록

What was the influential music and poetry that embodied the intertextuality of music and poetry during the liberation space (1946–1950) in Korea? In order to recover from trauma and pain caused by the Korean liberation space and time of need, it is important to pay attention to the application of literary therapy, which is an area of healing poetry that has been forgotten over time. This study aimed to restore the collective, social, and national trauma narratives from the individual accounts of those in the liberation space by reviewing poems that are created through songs of that era. Kim Soon Nam, the musical genius who defected to North Korea, distinguished himself in modern and contemporary history, but has since been forgotten. It is indisputable that Kim Soon Nam is a meaningful figure within the poetry genre who needs to be studied further. What sets him apart from his contemporaries is that his musical world reflects the liberation space through its notes—that is, his notes are based on the poetic works of defected poets and lyricists, and his lyrics helped advance research of the harmony and reciprocation of music and poetry. Kim Soon Nam composed his music using the poems of those who defected to North Korea. This paper examines the implications of literary therapy from poetry transformed through the lyrics of the defected poets, specifically in the lyric poem “Lullaby,” a song by Kim Soon Nam. Through the composers’ careful and deliberate selection of lyrics, it is possible to convey and also analogize their emotions and values to the listener. The fact that there are literary and artistic works that are prohibited for political reasons shows that there yet remain emotional and ethical scars prevalent in our society. These scars produce prejudice, and such prejudice breeds other wounds. On the other hand, the fact that Haegeum is happening (the release of forbidden literature from North Korea), is proof that the society is healed or is in the process of being healed. The artistic value of the works and the personal evaluation of their creators cannot be completely separated, and the simultaneous evaluation of a non-biased individual and the evaluation of work can be a starting point for macro literary therapy. Just as the intertextuality of text and melody brings synergy to literary therapy, the appreciation and understanding of the two creations can be deepened by the historical reflection of the age and a three-dimensional reflection and understanding of the creator. Through reflection and appreciation during the examination of literary works, and by considering the emotions accumulated over half a century of the passion of creators and those influenced by those creators, literary therapy, as well as value oriented therapy can occur simultaneously.
