초록

이 논문은 삼설기본 <노처녀가>의 주동인물인 노처녀의 장애 여성으로서의 사회문화적 위치와 외부의 시선에 대한 탐색, 작품의 서술 전략과 웃음의 기능에 대한 상관성을 집중적으로 조명하고자 작성되었다. 서론에서는 이 작품의 분석에는 장애인 문학적 관점의 도입이 필요함을 강조하였다.
2장에서는 작품의 화자인 노처녀의 사회적 위상과 존재론적 상황을 분석하였다. 가부장적 종법질서가 강화되어가던 조선후기 상황에서 노처녀는 3중의 질곡 상태에 놓여 있었다는 점을 특별히 주목하였다. 그리고 장애 여성들에 대한 부정적인 시선과 인식의 태도를 <박씨전>을 통해 간접적으로 살펴보았다.

4장에서는 <노처녀가>의 서술전략과 서사 전개구조가 진지함과 희극성의 교차적, 주기적 반복구조로 이루어져 있음을 살펴보았다. 희극성을 통해서는 독자들과의 소통력을 높이고 공감의 폭을 확장하였으며, 진지한 진술을 통해 장애인에 대한 당대의 편견과 억압의 양상을 드러내었다고 보았다. 한편 희극성은 주인공의 자발적인 혼사 추진이라는 일탈적 행위를 용인해주는 장치였으며, 이를 통해 혼사를 성사시킬 수 있었다고 파악하였다.
결론에서는 논의를 요약하였으며, <노처녀가>의 낭만적 결구는 결국 가부장적 가치체계로의 편입을 시사하고 있다고 보았다. 이는 정상/비정상의 대립구도를 해체하는 장애 문제의 근본적 해결에는 미치지 못하는 것으로 파악하였다.

This paper examines the sociocultural position of the protagonist in Nocheonyeoga (The Old Maid's Song) as a disabled woman, exploring external perceptions directed toward her and analyzing the correlation between the work's narrative strategies and the function of humor. The introduction establishes the necessity of adopting a disability studies framework for the proper analysis of this literary work.
Chapter 2 investigates the social status and existential condition of the unmarried female narrator. Particular attention is given to the triple marginalization she experienced during the late Joseon period, when patriarchal lineage systems were undergoing intensification. The negative perceptions and attitudes toward disabled women during this period are further examined through comparative reference to Bakssijeon.
Chapter 3 elucidates the origins of the protagonist's matrimonial aspirations despite her status as an individual with multiple severe disabilities. The analysis demonstrates that her desire stemmed from a fundamental need for recognition as a human subject, with marriage representing the sole available pathway for such acknowledgment within her sociocultural context. Self-deprecating humor emerges as a critical narrative mechanism that enables the protagonist to transcend normative boundaries while simultaneously raising social consciousness regarding disability issues.
Chapter 4 analyzes the narrative structure and development of Nocheonyeoga, revealing a cyclical pattern that alternates between earnest discourse and comedic elements. The humor functions to enhance reader engagement and expand empathetic understanding, while the serious components expose contemporary prejudices and systemic oppression directed toward disabled individuals. Additionally, the comic elements serve as a legitimizing device for the protagonist's unconventional pursuit of marriage, ultimately facilitating its successful realization.
The conclusion synthesizes these findings and argues that the romantic resolution of Nocheonyeoga ultimately signifies the protagonist's incorporation into the patriarchal value system. This outcome, while representing individual success within narrative constraints, falls short of fundamentally dismantling the normal/abnormal binary that underlies disability oppression in premodern Korean society.
