일제강점기 盧明愚의 민족운동과 사회운동 (National and social movements of Roh Myung-woo during the Japanese colonial period)

초록

노명우는 일제강점기 충남 부여지역의 민족운동과 사회운동을 대표하는 인물이다. 그는 충남 부여에서 태어나 일찍부터 민족의식을 키웠으며, 재학 중 공주의 3·1독립운동을 준비하고 시위를 주도하였다. 서울 유학 중에도 학생단체의 간부를 지내며 당시 풍미하던 문화운동을 벌였다. 졸업 후에는 원산과 익산에서 교사로서 학생들의 봉건 의식 타파, 신지식 교육과 근대 의식의 고취에 힘썼다. 이 과정에서 사회운동의 새로운 이념과 방략을 모색한 끝에 사회주의 사상을 수용하였다.
그는 1920년대 중반 충남 강경에서 본격적으로 사회운동을 벌였다. 사회운동 단체의 간부로서 무산대중의 권익 옹호와 사회의식 고취에 앞장섰으며, 언론인으로서 지역 문제를 제기하고 일제 관헌의 횡포를 고발하는 활동을 벌였다. 1920년대 후반 귀향하여 침체에 빠져 있던 사회운동을 활성화시키기 위해 노동·청년운동 단체의 결성을 주도하였다. 나아가 청년운동의 연합조직과 신간회 지회의 설립을 추진하는 등 지역 사회운동을 주도하였다.
그는 1930년대 초기 국내외 정세의 변화와 사회운동의 전환에 발맞추어 사회운동을 벌였다. 혁명적 대중운동으로서 농민조합을 결성하여 활동했으며, 자신 소유의 토지를 무상 제공하는 등의 헌신적인 모습을 보였다. 일제의 탄압으로 농민조합이 해체 당하자 공개 활동을 중지하고, 계급 해방과 공산주의 사회 실현을 지향하며 사회주의 사상을 연구하는 성격의 비밀결사 공산주의연구협의회와 공산주의자협의회를 결성하여 활동하였다.
그는 혁명적 대중운동과 비밀결사 활동으로 피체되어 장기간의 구금 속에서 잔혹한 고문을 받았다. 결국 고문의 후유증으로 젊은 나이에 순국하였다. 그는 지역 차원을 넘어 일제강점기 민족운동과 사회운동의 전형을 보여주는 인물이었다.

영어초록

Roh Myung-woo is a representative of the national and social movements in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do during the Japanese colonial period. Born in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do, he developed a national consciousness from an early age. During his school years, he prepared for the March 1 independence movement for Gongju and led the protests. While he was studying in Seoul, he served as an executive of a student organization and held a cultural movement that was at the time. After graduation, he worked as a teacher in Wonsan and Iksan to break through the feudal consciousness of students, educate new knowledge and inspire modern consciousness. In this process, he accepted socialist ideas after seeking new ideologies and strategies of social movements.
He started a social movement in earnest in Ganggyeong, Chungcheongnam-do in the mid-1920s. As an executive of a social movement group, he took the lead in advocating the rights and interests of the masses and raising social awareness, and as a journalist, he raised issues of local issues and carried out activities to accuse the tyranny of the Japanese colonial constitution. In the late 1920s, he returned home and led the formation of a labor and youth movement group in order to revitalize the social movement that was in stagnation. He further led the local community movement, promoting the establishment of the youth movement coalition and the Shinganhoe branch.
In the early 1930s, he held social movements in line with the changes in domestic and foreign circumstances and social movements. As a revolutionary mass movement, he formed and worked as a Farmers’union, and showed a dedication to providing his own land for free. When the Farmers’union was disbanded by the Japanese imperialism, he stopped his public activities and formed a secret organization of communist research councils and communist councils aimed at class emancipation and communist society and researching socialist ideas.
He was subjugated by revolutionary mass movements and secret organization and was subjected to cruel torture in prolonged detention. He eventually died at a young age due to the aftereffect of torture. He was a figure that showed the epitome of national and social movements during the Japanese colonial period beyond the regional level.
