Japanese Governor-General of korea proclaimed the burial lawin 1912. Its purpose was to restrict scattered graves to permitted public cemetery. But the imposition of a burial lawwas a fatal blowto korean because they thought that their fortune depends on the grave site which is a nexus between past and future. Colonial government,naturally being interested in only appropriating their colony, disregarded korean burial custom. In the end, burial lawbrought effect ofmaking korean bare life. It can be seen as a part of biopolitics in colonial korea.
Only a smallminority of pro-japanese korean allowed to bury his forebears on the site theywould like. The other koreans could not butmake fake graves in the cemetery and bury dead body in secret.After all they dug the foundation of the burial lawitself.
It was discarded in 1919.
