초록

일제는 중앙집권적 교육통제의 일환으로 수학여행의 기획, 여정, 방문지, 경비조달 등 수학여행의 ‘실시’에 직․간접적으로 관여하였다. 동화정책이 강화되기 시작한 1920년대 이후 공통적으로 실시되고 있는 일본․만주 수학여행에서 일본(내지)은 ‘근대화’를, 만주는 근대일본의 ‘제국화’를 과시하는 장이 되었다. 일제는 이를 통하여 궁극적으로 제국일본에 대한 ‘忠’을 생산하려 하였다.
수학여행 후 학생들의 소감은 일본근대와 전통에의 ‘동화’를 보여주는 듯하다. 그러나 그것은 ‘표면적인 동화’일 뿐이었다. 식민지 조선인학생들 ‘욕구’하는 실체는 ‘근대일본’이 아니라 ‘근대성’ 자체였기 때문이다. 학생들이 수학여행 후 동화에 내재한 차별의 자각하고 행동으로 표출한 동맹휴학, 그리고 조선사회 일각이 가졌던 수학여행에 대한 문제의식으로 증명된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate how school excursion to Japan and Manchuria by students from Korean-managed middle schools in Chosun in the period between 1920s and 30s.
As a part of centralized education control, the Japanese imperialists directly or indirectly involved in planning and deciding the schedule, visiting places and expenses of school excursion. This is supported by the fact that school excursion to Japan and Manchurian began in earnest since 1920s when Japan strengthened its policies of assimilation into Japan.
Japan used its mainland(inland) to show off its modernization and Manchuria, its imperialization. So called ‘modern spaces’ and ‘purposedly made traditional spaces’ were designated as visiting places of school excursion. The imperial Japan made students visit governmental office streets, department stores, parks, trade fairs and schools in the inland to notice the modernization and civilization of Japan. It also made students stop by shrines, temples, historical remains related to the Japanese emperor and memorial towers in Japan to feel the tradition of the nation. These ultimately aimed to promoting loyalty to the imperial Japan.
After school excursion to the imperial nation, students of Chosun seemed to be assimilated into the modernity and tradition of Japan. But it was just superficial. What was really sought by those students was not ‘modernized Japan’, but modernity itself. Actually, students who experienced school excursion internalized the existence of discrimination by the Japanese empire and sometimes even went on strike. Similarly, some people of Chosun were concerned and raised questions about the need of school excursion to the imperial nation.
