초록

원불교에 있어서 정기훈련제도는 1926년 하선(夏禪)에서부터 시작된다. 1924년 창립총회후 익산총부를 건설하고, 1925년 정기훈련법과 상시훈련법을 제정하고 이에 의해 시작한 것이다. 이는 수행체계를 확립함과 동시에 선원(禪員)․임원․학원을 배출하는 기능을 담당하므로 교단의 급선무였던 것으로 보인다. 하선은 음력 5월 6일에서 8월 6일까지, 동선은 음력 12월 6일에서 이듬해 3월 6일까지 하․동 각각 3개월 기간이며, 재가․출가가 함께 참여하고 있다.
하선․동선에는 1938년부터 지방교무강습이 병설되었으며 그것이 오늘날 교무훈련으로 이어지고 있다. 따라서 하선․동선제도는 1950년을 기점으로 시행되지 않으며, 각 지방교당에서 행하던 그것은 교리강습회로 성격이 굳어지고 있다. 또한 선원과 함께 1937년에 이루어진 학원(學院)은 1946년 유일학림의 개원, 1951년 원광대학의 인가 등 정규교육기관으로 발전하고 있다.
정기훈련기간인 하 동선에는 교단 간부가 선원(禪院)에 교감 교무 서기 등으로 파견되었고, 『선원일지』를 작성하고 있다. 그것은 소태산대종사(박중빈, 1891-1943)의 법문 채록과 의견안 수렴 등을 목적으로 하고 있으며, 대종사 재세시 기록으로 1936년 하선에서 1940년 동선까지 13권이 남아 있다. 이 가운데 대종사 법문은 전후 161편에 이르는데, 법문을 베푼 사항만 나타나기도 하고, 구체적인 내용이 기록되기도 한다.
대종사 언행록인 『대종경』의 수록법문 가운데 선원에서 행한 법문은 31편이며, 박창기 수필의 『법설집』에는 72편에 이른다. 그런데 『선원일지』와 대조해 보니 『법설집』의 법문 가운데 대부분이 선원에서 행한 것으로 드러난다. 『선원일지』의 법문은 설해진 시기가 분명하므로 교단제도의 흐름, 교리형성의 과정, 신앙과 수행, 그리고 관련 인물 등의 구체적인 상황이 밝혀진다. 앞으로 『선원일지』『법설집』 등을 대비해 보면 대종사 법문의 상황성이 드러나며, 이는 『대종경』 수록법문을 해석하는 좋은 자료가 될 것이다.

영어초록

Fixed term training system of Won-Buddhism begins at summer retreat of 1926. After general assembly of foundation and construction of Headquarters in Iksan at 1924, on 1925 rules of fixed term training and daily training had been established, and began with it. It undertook the functions of establishment of disciplinary system and production of meditator, officer and practitioner, so that seems to be the most urgent task. Summer retreat was from 6th May to 6th August by the lunar calendar, and winter retreat was from 6th December to 6th March of next year by the lunar calendar. Both are three months each and participated by both lay devotees and renounced ministers.
From 1938 local minister training had been established with summer and winter retreats, and it is connected to minister training of today. Summer and winter retreats system was no longer carried out from 1950, and that conducted by every local temple fixed as tenet studying. Also, academic center which established together with meditation center at 1937 developed as regular educational organization, open of an institute, Yuil Hakrim at 1946 and approval of Wonkwang University at 1951.
During summer and winter retreat, the fixed term training, high officials of the order had been dispatched as head minister, minister, clerk and so on, and they recorded Meditation Center Diary. It was purposed to record the dharma words of Founding Master Sot’aesan(Park Chung-Bin, 1891-1943) and to collect opinions. While the life time of Founding Master, records were remained in 13 volumes from summer retreat of 1936 to winter retreat of 1940. Among them, his dharma words are 161 pieces, and those recorded in detail or only fact of delivery.
Among dharma words in the Scripture of Founding Master(大宗經), 31 pieces had delivered at meditation center, and 72 pieces are contained in the Collection of Dharma Words(法說集) hand written by Park Chang-Ki. Comparing with Meditation Center Diary, it is noticed that most of dharma words in the Collection of Dharma Words had been delivered at meditation center. The dharma words in Meditation Center Diary recorded date of delivery clearly. Therefore, specific circumstances were clarified, such as flow of system of the order, course of establishment of tenet, faith and practice, concerned person and so on. Further comparing Meditation Center Diary and the Collection of Dharma Words will illuminate the circumstantial condition of dharma words of Founding Master, and will be valuable resources to analyze dharma words in the Scripture of Founding Master.
