초록

이 연구의 목적은 1907년 이후 『제국신문』에 게재된 외보란을 중심으로, 국제 관계를 조망하면서 외보란에 구축된 심상지리와 그것이 생산한 특정한 담론을 분석하는 것이다.
1907년 이후, 『제국신문』은 편집체제를 대폭 변경하면서 근대 체제에 대한 이해를 대중적 지(知)로 확산시키는 데 주력한다. 특히 외보란은 독자에게 시국의 정형, 즉 일본을 포함한 국제정세의 역학관계를 알려주고, 다른 나라가 혁명과 독립의 과정을 통해 근대국민국가로 탄생해가는 소식을 전해줌으로써 세계 이해에 대한 일정한 질서화된 개념을 형성시킨다. 그러한 질서화를 통해 세계에 대한 심상지리와 안목을 구축하는 것이 민지 개발에 큰 역할을 한다고 본 것이다. 그러므로 동시대의 다른 신문들의 외보란과 달리, 『제국신문』 외보란은 보도 내용에 따라 사실 보도에 논평을 가미하는 방식으로 자강의 논리와 반일 담론이라는 인식적 정향을 구축해 간다.
요컨대 『제국신문』 외보란에서는 캐나다, 터키 등 타자의 정치학을 보도하면서, 정치적 무력 대응보다는 자강의 논리를 현실적 대안으로 제시한다. 근대적 제도로의 변화, 강대국들과의 우호적인 외교 교섭, 혁명당과 같은 정치적 혁신 세력의 등장을 자강의 요건으로 제시한다. 또한 『제국신문』은 국제적 역학관계를 활용하여 일본을 견제하고 비난하는 담론을 구축하는 한편, 강대국이 주력하는 군비경쟁을 통해 침략주의적인 면모를 비판한다. 여기서 일본과 침략주의 속성에 대한 비판은 문명 개념을 새롭게 정립하려는 시도, 즉 정신문명의 회복으로 자연스럽게 연결된다. 그러나 도의의 논리에 근거한 저항 담론은 현실적 실효성을 발휘하지 못한다. 다만 『제국신문』 외보란을 통해 구축된 반일담론은 점진적 개혁론의 편집기조에 타당성을 부여할 뿐이었다.

영어초록

It's purpose is to analyze the image geography constructed and the specific discourse that it produces in 'foreign news' while looking at international relations, focusing on 'foreign news' publi shed in 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』 after 1907.
Since 1907, 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』 has changed its editorial system. And to spread understanding of the modern system to popular knowledge. In particular, 'Foreign News' informed readers of the International situation and the dynamics of the inter national situation including Japan. And it conveys the news of birth as a modern nation-state through the process of revolution and independence in other countries.
As a result, 'foreign news' of 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』 is to form a certain ordering of world understanding and to build the Imagined geographies, and a perspective on the world through its ordering. Therefore, 'foreign news' seems to play a big role in the development of the Knowledge of the people. Especially, 'foreign news' of 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』, in contrast to other news papers, commented on fact reports according to the news reports. In this way, it establishes the cognitive orientations of the logic of 'Strenuous Effort' and the discourse of anti-Japanese.
in short, in the 'Foreign News' of 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』, it reports the politics of Others such as the politics of Canada and Turkey and so on, and suggests the logic of Strenuous Effort rather than political armed response as a real alternative. It suggests changes in modern institutions, friendly diplomatic nego tiations with the great powers, and the emergence of political innovation forces as a requirement of Strenuous Effort In addition, 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』 utilizes international dy namics and establishes discourse that checks and criticizes Japan. On the other hand, it criticizes the invasive aspect of the arms race that strong countries develop. It criticizes Japan and the nature of aggression, which is an attempt to establish a new concept of civilization. This attempt is naturally connected to the restoration of spiritual civilization. However, its discourse of resistance based on the logic of morality does not demonstrate its practical effective ness.
It constitutes anti-Japanese discourse through the 'foreign news' of 『Jeguksinmun(帝國新聞)』, which merely justified the editorial lines of the progressive reformism.
