초록

본고는 1960년대 초반 『사상계』와 『여원』 두 잡지에서 구성되는 새세대론과 청춘담론이 변화․분화․생성되는 방식에 주목하였다. 당대 구성된 청춘 여성 담론은 자율적인 것이 아니라, 주류 세대담론에서 젠더화와 계층화의 구도를 통해 배제와 분화, 생성의 방식을 취하며 구성되었다. 담론은 무엇을 구성하는 가가 아니라, 어떻게 구성되어지는가가 문제라면 두 잡지의 분화양상의 움직이는 구도를 살펴보는 일은 중요하다.
『사상계』에서 구성되는 새세대론은 4.19직후와 5.16이후로 구분된다. 4.19 직후 새세대는 순수, 맑음, 저항의 전향적 표상을 부여받는다. 그러나 5.16직후 새세대는 혼란, 충동, 불안으로 변화된다. 새세대의 감성은 불안의 측면에서 다루어지는데, 『사상계』는 실업난과 관련된 경제적 문제와 관련된다. 반면 『여원』에서는 불안의 감수성에 극단적으로 참여한다. 여성의 기본 조건은 불안 그 자체이며, 이 시기 청춘 여성이 존재하는 방식은 여성적 불안에 있었다. 『여원』에서 구성된 청춘 여성은 주류 세대론에서 배제되면서 불안의 존재조건을 형성하며 새로운 국가건설의 결핍의 주체로 호명되고 있다.
새세대는 젊은 신체에 관심을 갖는다. 『사상계』에서 성문제는 부분적으로 다루어지는데, 결혼전 성행위와 같은 성적 장치는 중산층이 아닌 청년과 젊은 여성은 배제되고 청년 대학생만이 허용된다. 젠더화와 계층화에 의해 동시적으로 분할된다. 『여원』에서 신체는 보다 섬세하고 다양하게 나타나는데, 특히 신체 그 자체에 대한 관심이 강화된다. 신체적 아름다움에 대한 카니발적 관심은 지성미와 관련될 때만 의미를 갖는다. 세대론에서 배제되면서 구성된 청춘으로서의 신체는 공적인 것(지성적인 것)을 재포획하려는 은밀한 욕망을 드러낸다.

영어초록

This article attempts to analyze how the discourses on New generation as well as on Youth, presented in two representative magazines in the early-1960s, The Sa-sang-ge and The Yeo-won, had been changed, diverged and created. In particular, the way of the composition of Female-Youth discourse was never autonomous in that it was related to be excluded, diverged, and recreated by the gendering and the staging under the major discourse on the Generation. It deserves careful attention to examine the moving framework of diverging aspects of both magazines because the significant issue on discourse is not what it composed of, but how it is composed.
The theory of New Generation in The Sa-sang-ge was bisected shortly after the Revolution of April, 19 and after the Military Change of Government of May, 16. In other words, the former generation symbolized purity, clarity, and resistance. The latter generation, however, was transformed into disorder, impulse, and anxiety. The sensitivity of new generation was touched on primarily with regard of anxiety. On the other hand, The Yeo-won dealt with the sensitivity of anxiety by participating in it more radically. Namely, the fundamental condition of female was anxiety per se, so the existence of female youth in this period lay in the female anxiety. The female youth, had been consisted of in The Yeo-won, was called as the subject of deficiency in the field of the establishment of new nation by being eliminated from the major theory of Generation and forming the existence of anxiety.
The new generation took much interest in the young body. The Sa-sang-ge treated sexuality partially, for instance, the sexual mechanism like the sexual behavior before marriage was restricted on the young university students by excluding both the female youth and the youth without belonging to the middle class. This shows that sexuality was also divided simultaneously by means of the gendering and the staging. The Yeo-won treated body more delicately and diversely and focused on the interest in body per se. The carnival-like interests in the bodily beauty acquire significance within the limit of the beauty of intellect. The body as youth, made by being excluded from the theory of Generation, reveals the hidden desire which attempts to recapture the public, or the intellect.
