초록

시인 고은이 “아! 오십년대”라고 감탄사 없이는 부를 수 없는 시대라 부를 만큼 50년대는 전쟁의 고통 속에서 살아남은 자들이 폐허 속에서 삶을 일구며 살 수밖에 없던 시기이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 1954년 시인들이 현실에 좌절하지 않고 동인지 『시작(詩作)』을 발간한 것은 시인으로서 현대를 극복하고자 하는 의지의 표현이라 할 수 있다. 총 6회 발간된 『시작(詩作)』에는 78편의 시, 21편의 평론, 4편의 국외 시론 소개, 번역시(詩) 등과 함께 한국 시단의 소식과 신작 소개와 서평이 수록되어 있다.
본고는 편집위원제로 운영된 『시작(詩作)』의 편집위원을 맡은 박인환과 이봉래 이외에 동인지에 참여한 조향, 김차영, 양명문, 김규동, 김수영, 박태진 등이 <후반기>의 동인인 것을 감안해 『시작(詩作)』이 1950년대 모더니즘 운동을 펼친 <후반기>와 연속선상에서 논의할 필요가 있다고 본다. 이에 본고는 1954년부터 1956년까지 총 6집으로 발간된 『시작(詩作)』을 대상으로 『시작(詩作)』의 창간 배경과 목적 그리고 <후반기>와의 연관성을 살피고 『시작(詩作)』이 추구한 현대시의 면모를 분석했다.
먼저 <후반기>와의 연관성을 살핀 결과 『시작(詩作)』이 <후반기> 모더니즘과 같은 선상에서 모더니즘을 전개했다는 것을 확인하였다. 『시작(詩作)』에 <후반기> 동인을 결성한 박인환을 비롯해 김경린, 김규동, 이봉래, 조향뿐만 아니라 모더니즘 운동에 동참한 이활, 장호, 김춘수, 양명문 등도 함께 참여해 현대시의 새로운 방법론을 모색했음을 확인했다. 다음으로 『시작(詩作)』동인지를 결성한 박인환이 <후반기> 동인으로 활동하면서 계획했다가 무산된 시 낭독회를 비롯한 문예활동을 실천하고 이와 더불어 ‘이상(李箱) 상(賞)’을 제정을 시도했음을 확인했다. 다음으로 『시작(詩作)』이 추구한 현대시의 지향점을 살폈다. 그 결과 『시작(詩作)』 동인들은 경험을 바탕으로 현실을 인식하고 저항의 글쓰기를 실천하는 존재론적 지성을 현대시로 구현하기 위해 노력했다는 것을 밝혔다.
이 연구를 통해 <후반기> 동인이 단 하나의 기관지나 동인지 없이 해체되었기 때문에 그들에 관한 연구가 ‘주간 국제’에서 다룬 ‘후반기 문예 특집’에 한정해서 논의되던 연구의 범위를 확장하는 데 이바지할 것으로 기대된다. 더불어 <신시론>과 <후반기> 그리고 『시작(詩作)』을 거쳐 1957년에 개별 사화집을 발간한 전봉건, 김광림, 이형기, 김경린에 이르는 모더니즘 운동의 흐름을 재정비하는 후속 연구에 연결 고리가 될 것으로 전망한다.
다음으로 본 연구는 기존의 1950년대 모더니즘 연구에서 가장 비중 있게 다루고 있는 박인환과 김규동에 관한 개별 시인 연구에 필요한 자료를 축적하는 데 이바지할 것이다. 또 한국 시문학사에서 박인환과 김규동에 비해 상대적으로 연구가 미진한 박태진, 김용호, 김차영, 이활, 장호, 정규 등의 개별 시인이 추구한 모더니즘 시작(詩作) 활동을 지속해서 연구할 수 있는 과제 생성에 이바지할 것이다.

영어초록

In 1950s, which was the period poet Go Eun described as time that could not be called without the exclamation, “Ah, 50s!”, people who survived in the pain of war could not but build their life in ruins. Nevertheless, poets published 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』without frustration with reality in 1954, which might be the expression of their will to overcome the modern times as poets.『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』which were published a total of six times introduced 78 poems, 21 criticisms, 4 foreign essays on poetry and gathered translated poems as well as news on the Korean world of poetry, and new poems and book reviews.
This paper suggests that it is necessary to discuss 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』, in relation to <Hu-ban-gi>, given that Park Inhwan and Lee Bongrae who served as editorial committees of 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』which was managed based on the editorial committee system, as well as Jo Hyang, Kim Chayeong, Yang Myeongmun, Kim Gyudong, Kim Suyeong, Park Taejin, etc., who were involved in the literary coterie magazine were coteries. It, therefore, examined the background and the objective of 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』which had been published into a total of six series from 1954 to 1956 and its connection with <Hu-ban-gi> and analyzed the aspect of the modern poetry pursued by it.
First, it found that 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』developed the modernism in the same vein of that suggested by <Hu-ban-gi>, and that not only Park Inhwan, as well as Kim Gyeongrin, Kim Gyudong, Lee Bongrae, Jo Hyang, who organized the coteries of <Hu-ban-gi>, but also Lee Hwal, Jang Ho, Kim Chunsu, Yang Myeongmun, etc. who participated in the modernist movement sought a new methodology for the modern poetry. Second, it found that Park Inhwan who organized the literary coterie magazine of 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』practiced public readings of poetry and literary activities, which were once planned but were dispersed, and also tried to establish ‘Lee Sang (李箱) Award (賞)’. Third, it examined the orientation of the modern poetry pursued by 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』. The findings suggest that coteries of『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』made efforts to embody the ontological intelligence through the modern poetry, by recognizing reality based on their experiences and practicing resistant writing.
This study is expected to extend the research scope of ‘Jugan Gukje’ which only discussed the ‘literary special edition of <Hu-ban-gi>’, because <Hu-ban-gi> was dissolved without any papers or literary coterie magazines. Moreover, it is also expected to be a link to further research rearranging the flow of the modernist movement, from <Sinshiron>, <Hu-ban-gi> and 『Writing Poem-LA POÉSIE』to individual anthologies, published by Jeong Bonggeon, Kimg Gwangrim, Lee Hyeonggi and Kim Gyeongrin.
Next, it would contribute to accumulating data necessary for studying individual poets including Park Inhwan and Kim Gyudong, who have been most intensively examined by the existing research on the modernism in 1950s. In addition, it would contribute to creating themes which can encourage to continuously study the modernist poetic activities pursued by individual poets including Park Taejin, Kim Yongho, Kim Chayeong, Lee Hwal, Jang Ho, Jeong Gyu, etc. who have been relatively less studied than Park Inhwan and Kim Gyudong, in the Korean history of poetic literature.
