1960년대 『현대시』 동인의 세대의식 연구 (A Study on the Generation Consciousness of 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole in 1960's)

초록

『현대시』 동인은 시대 이념 및 당대 청년의 공통된 의식세계와 동떨어진 평가를 받고 있다. 대표적으로 『현대시』는 『신춘시』 동인의 참여성에 대한 대척점으로 문학사적인 위치를 부여받는다. 하지만 『현대시』 동인은 60년대라는 매우 독특한 시기를 통과하고 있다. 신세대 문인이 에콜을 구성한 이유는 자신들의 세대적 목소리를 내기 위해서이다. 그들은 목소리에는 역사적 사건 속에서도 쉽게 물러나거나 좌절하지 않는 동일세대의 목소리가 포함되어 있다.
본고에서는 이에 주목하여 세대적 관점에서 『현대시』 동인에 접근해 보았다. 이들의 시에서 종종 발견할 수 있는 ‘친구’, ‘죽은자’, 그리고 반성 모티브는 이들 60년대 신세대가 지니고 있는 공통적 경험에서 비롯된 것임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 『현대시』가 적극적으로 주장하였던 내면세계에 대한 면밀한 관찰과 관심이 모든 시인의 공통된 관심사가 아니라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 1968년을 전후해 『현대시』 발간 횟수의 증가와 평론의 증가는 이 시기를 통과하면서 동인의 내적 자질이 변모하고 있음을 드러낸다. ‘문’을 통해 외부 세계에 대한 인식의 폭을 넓힌다.
뿐만 아니라 현대시 동인의 세계 인식은 당대 청년들의 도주적 경향과 유사하며, 당대 청년 시인들이 견지하고 있는 도주의식과 공통분모를 형성하고 있다. 그들은 현실 인식에 있어서도 ‘보여주기’ 방식을 통해 자신의 목소리를 내었다. 이렇게 보았을 때 『현대시』 동인은 당대 신세대들의 의식 세계와 공유하는 지점을 통과하고 있었으며 그들의 시에는 세대 의식이 내포되어 있다.

영어초록

The 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole has been evaluated to have distanced itself from the ideology of the times and the common conscious world of contemporary youths. It has been placed to an antipode against the participation of the "Early Spring Poetry" coterie in the history of literature. However, it should be noted that the 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole was going through a very unique period of the 1960s. Its members were undergoing such major historical turning points as April 19 Revolution, May 16 Coup, and Korea-Japan Treaty in their twenties. An examination of the new generation consciousness of the members of the 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole would thus help to evaluate them in a new way and approach their various substances.
Focusing on it, this study made an approach to the 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole from a generational point of view and found that the motives of "friends," "the dead," and reflection often found in their poems stemmed from the common experiences of the younger generation in the 1960s. The study also found that the close observation of and interest in the inner world actively argued for by the 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole was not a common interest to all the poets. The rising number of its issues and critiques around 1968 indicates that the coterie was changing in its internal qualification as it was going through the period. At that time, the members broadened the scope of their awareness of external worlds through a "door" instead of remaining inside. The sympathetic statements from the outside of the coterie and the participation of new poets in the coterie advanced the horizon of its global consciousness to another level.
In addition, its global consciousness was similar to the escaping tendency of its contemporary youths and shared a common denominator with the escaping consciousness possessed by its contemporary youth poets. In that sense, one can discover the aspect of solidarity of generational consciousness in the coterie. Its members voiced their opinions in the "showing" way with regard to their awareness of reality and did not neglect the social awareness of Korea-Japan Treaty. Taking those into account, it seems that the 『Hyeondaesi』 Ecole was passing through the points shared by the conscious world of the contemporary younger generation and that its poems contained the generational consciousness.
