초록

필자는 한국박물관협회 40년간 활동의 변천과 성과를 분석하여 협회의 당면 과제와 협회간 협력 방안을 모색하기 위하여 박물관 개념의 도입에서부터 박물관 제도의 시작과 박물관 설립ㆍ운영 현황 분석을 기반으로 1976년 12월 15일 한국민중박물관협회 창립에서부터 1991년 3월 (사)한국박물관협회로 인가된 후 40년간 활동의 변천과 성과를 분석하여 협회가 나아가야 할 방향과 풀어야 할 과제를 제시하였다.
이에 필자는 한국박물관협회 윤태석 박사의 한국박물관협회 연혁을 기반으로 한국박물관협회의 연혁을 Ⅰ. 한국민중박물관협회 시대: 1. 한국민중박물관협회 초대 조자용 회장기(1976~1978), 2. 한국민중박물관협회 2~6대 허동화 회장기(1978~1988), Ⅱ. 한국박물관협회 시대: 1. 초대~2대 허동화 회장기(1988~1991), Ⅲ. (사)한국박물관협회 시대: 1. 초대~2대 허동화 회장기(1991~ 1999), 2. 3~4대 김종규 회장기(1999~2007), 3. 5대 배기동 회장기(2007~2009), 4. 6~7대 전보삼 회장기(2009~2014), 5. 8대 김쾌정 회장기(2015~2018)로 구분하여 40년간 활동의 변천을 서술하고 성과를 분석하였다.
(사)한국박물관협회가 건전한 박물관․미술관 활동을 통하여 민족문화 발전에 기여하며 사회교육기관으로서의 역할을 충실히 이행할 수 있도록 국내외 박물관․미술관 상호간의 유기적 협조체제 유지 및 제도적 보호 육성에 이바지 것에 대해 긍정적인 평가를 한다. 덧붙여 필자는 시대적 요청사항으로 미국박물관협회(AAM)가 미국박물관연맹(AAM)으로 개편했듯이 (사)한국박물관협회를 미래에 (사)한국박물관연맹(Korea Alliance of Museums: KAM)으로 개편할 것을 제안한다.

영어초록

This author analyzed the history and achievements of the Korean Museum Association ("KMA") for the last 40 years since the establishment of the Korea People's Association of Museum, KMA's predecessor, on December 15, 1976, throughout its operation after the reorganization into the current form. The purpose of study, which based on the analysis of the introduction of modern museum into Korea, the beginning of the institutional framework for museum and to the present situation of establishment and management of museums in Korea, is to identify the challenges faced by the Association, look for ways to cooperate with other associations, and provide a number of suggestions for the future of the Association.
Based on the chronological periods of KMA suggested by Dr. Tae-seok Yoon, Head of the Planning and Support Office of KMA, the author described the achievements of KMA based on the following periodization: Ⅰ. People's Association Era: 1. Period under the leadership of Ja-yong Cho, the first President (1976-1978), 2. Period under the leadership of Dong-hwa Huh, the second - sixth President (1978-1988), Ⅱ. KMA Era: 1. Period under the leadership of Dong-hwa Huh, the first - second President (1988-1991), Ⅲ. KMA Foundation Era: 1. Period under the leadership of Dong-hwa Huh, the first - second President (1991-1999), 2. Period under the leadership of Jong-gyu Kim, the third - fourth President (1999-2007), 3. Period under the leadership of Ki-dong Bae, the fifth President (2007-2009), 4. Period under the leadership of Bo-sam Jeon, the sixth - seventh President (2009-2014), and 5. Period under the leadership of Quae-jung Kim, the 8th President (2015-2018).
KMA has been implementing various projects to maintain an organic system of cooperation between museums and art museums in and outside of Korea and contributing to protecting and development the institution, so that the museums and art museums may contribute to the advancement of the Korean culture and fulfill their role as educational institutions through sound activities.
Furthermore, this author would like to suggest, KMA be reorganized into the Korea Alliance of Museums (KAM) in the future, as the Association of American Museums reorganized itself into Alliance of American Museums (AAM) to keep up with changes today.
