Since the 1990s, research on family businesses has entered a period of prosperity, with research results showing a geometric growth trend. This paper takes Yeo Hiap Seng, a century-old family enterprise, as the research object, introduces the general situation and development process of Yeo Hiap Seng, expounds Yeo Hiap Seng's corporate culture, and analyzes its competitiveness. Through the study of Yeo Hiap Seng's enterprises, it is found that their family participation has different effects on the performance of listed companies. There is a second kind of agency problem in family-listed companies, where family controlling shareholders occupy the interests of minority shareholders. This kind of agency problem does not have a single cause and form of expression. There are still imperfections in the governance of family enterprises, and solutions to this series of problems are proposed. For example, improving the level of professional management, enhancing the exit mechanism for family members, and establishing a "safety belt" between families and businesses. The research results indicate that the complexity of family business agency problems is greater than expected, and the impact on performance is significant. From the current situation, the opportunities and risks faced by family businesses coexist, and the corporate governance mechanism needs to be improved. Regulatory authorities and policymakers need to further optimize the investment environment and strengthen market construction in order to create a favorable external environment for the long-term healthy development of family businesses.
