    초록

    This study was designed to investigate the effects of the physical self-concept on self-efficacy and exercise behavior by applying the transtheoritical model to male, female college students. The sampling was conducted from college students at 5 universities in Seoul and Kyoungido area. The convenience sampling, part of the non probability sampling method, was used for this research. A total of 613 questionnaires were distributed and all of them was collected back; those questionnaires that were insincerely replied or ambiguous were excluded and finally 588(male:293, female:295) questionnaires were analyzed for this study. The Physical Self-Concept Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale and Stages of Exercise Behavior Change Scale were completed by all participants. For the analysis of the data, SPSS 18.0 version for Windows was used, and frequence analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, chi-square, correlation analysis and multiple-regression analysis were made. Several major findings were as follows:First, there was signigicant difference on stage of exercise behavior change according to gender.
    Second, the relationship between physical self-concept and stage of exercise behavior change for males showed that sport competence had effect on their exercise behavior; for females, attractive body and physical strength had effects on their exercise behavior.
    Third, the results showed that the effect of physical self-concept on self-efficacy was as follows: physical strength, attractive body and sport competence out of physical self-concept had effects on the self-efficacy for males; only physical strength out of physical self-concept had effect self-efficacy for females.
    Forth, the effect of self-efficacy on exercise behavior had on influenced on both males and females to certain extent
