≪列女傳≫ 삽입 시가의 표현 양상 (Inserted poems expressed in LieNüZhuan)

초록

漢나라 劉向은 ≪列女傳≫ 총 104편의 전기문에서 100여명의 여성이 보여준 규범 실천과 윤리 덕목을 다양한 표현 수법으로 기록하였다. 그 중 18편의 전기문 중에는 삽입 시가가 20여 차례나 수록되어 있는데, 본고에서는 총 18편의 전기문 중에 수록된 삽입 시가의 내용을 7가지의 표현 양상으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 삽입 시가는 모두 중심인물의 일화와 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있는 것으로, 그 위치는 대부분 인물의 대화 중간이나 끝 부분에 있고, 때로는 서사 부분 중에 삽입되는 경우도 있다. 작자는 시가를 삽입하기 이전에 작품명을 밝히고 있거나, 단순히 시가의 인용 사실을 명확히 밝힌 뒤에 시가를 삽입하기도 하였고, 시가의 주제를 먼저 알리고서 시가를 삽입하기도 하였다.
그러한 ≪列女傳≫의 삽입 시가는 등장인물의 언어를 대신하거나, 혹은 대화 속의 강력한 의미를 반복적으로 강조하면서 행위 시도를 확실히 나타내려는 표식의 역할을 하고 있다. 그런데 삽입 시가는 등장인물의 개성을 선명하게 부각시키고 일화의 내용을 다채롭게 표현하는 효과를 지녔어도, 일화의 부가적 성분으로 출현한 것이라고 본다. 일화 중에 시가를 삽입하지 않고 일화 단독으로도 본 주제를 강조할 수 있음에도 불구하고, 작자 유향은 일화 중에 발생된 상황과 주인공의 언동에 부합된 삽입 시가를 출현시킴으로써 해당된 일화의 기록 방식을 다양하게 표현하고자 하였던 것이다. 그런 결과, 해당 일화는 시가의 발생 상황을 이해하게 하고 그것에 함축된 의미를 제대로 파악할 수 있는 창작 배경으로 동원된 부분으로 이해할 수 있게 하였으며, 아울러 삽입된 시가 대부분을 전기문의 주인공 여성이 지은 작품으로 인식하게 만들었다.
한마디로 말해서, 일화 중에 시가 형태를 삽입한 수법은 ≪列女傳≫의 전기문 수록 방식을 다채롭게 만든 독특한 표현 양상이라고 인정할 수 있겠다.

영어초록

In LieNüZhuan, Liu Xiang emphasizes the practice of norms and ethical virtue shown by 104 women and it contains their actions through diverse methods of expression. In general, the nature of these acts emerged uniquely through the logical and strongly persuasive speaking skills of the women protagonists. While recording the words and actions of the characters, sometimes a woman protagonist expresses her perspective or attitude by composing a poem or quoting a poem, or reveals her feeling by singing a song filled with deep meaning, or cases where very symbolic songs (children’s songs) that foreshadow situation that will occur in the future are inserted. The emergence of the inserted poems within these anecdotes brings about novel changes in the language scene, escaping from the monotonous, fragmented recorded anecdote, as well as having unique expression effects that spotlights the individuality of the characters.
LieNüZhuan contains 104 biographies, and among the 18 biographies, about 20 inserted poems are included. In this manuscript, among the 18 biographies, we looked at the 7 expression forms in the contents of the inserted poems. All of the inserted poems are closely related with the anecdotes of the main characters, it is generally located in the middle or end of the character’s language speech, and sometimes there are cases when it is inserted in the narrative part. Before inserting the poem, the writer reveals the name of the work or inserts the poem after simply, clearly revealing the quoting fact, and first informs about the subject of the poem and then inserting the poem. Other than this, the inserted poem emerges during the unfolding of the situation (event).
These inserted poems in LieNüZhuan substitutes for the language of the characters or repeatedly emphasizes strong meaning in the conversation and plays a formula role which definitely shows the action. In general, it can be considered that these inserted poems display a part of the character’s language expression using the poem’s form. However, the inserted poem clearly spotlights the individuality of the character and has the effect of diversely expressing contents of the anecdote, and it can be said to display value added components of the anecdote.
Although it is possible to emphasize this subject in the anecdote independently without inserting poems in the anecdote, the author’s taste is to diversely express the recording method of the anecdote by displaying the inserted poems that conforms to the incurred situation and character’s words and actions in the anecdote. As a result, the incurred situation of the poems in the relevant anecdote is understood and one can understand the parts mobilized through the background of the composition in which the implied meaning can be accurately understood, combined with the inserted poems generally allowing for recognition as a work that is made by female characters in the biographies.
To say in word, the method that inserts poem form in anecdotes can be recognized as a unique condition that makes the biography including method of LieNüZhuan diverse.
