극 중 상황 속 연기자의 감정에 관한 연구-샌포드 마이즈너의 연기론을 중심으로 (The Study on Actors’ Emotion in Theatrical Circumstances-Focused on Sanford Meisner’s Theory)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 샌포드 마이즈너(Sanford Meisner)의 관련 제안을 기반으로 동시대 감정 담론에 따라 극 중에서 발생하는 연기자의 감정을 논의하는 것이다. 연구자는 다음 세 가지 점을 전제로 본 연구를 수행하였다. 첫째, 이 연구는 연기자의 감정 발생에 관한 학술적․이론적 분석을 위한 것이며, 이를 바탕으로 경험적이고 실천적인 연구가 진행되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 현재까지 여러 연구자가 감정의 생물학적 보편성을 논의하였지만, 연구자는 감정이 사회문화적인 현상이고 항상 구체적인 언어로 명확하게 규정될 수 없다는 학자들의 의견을 따른다. 셋째, 연구자는 자연인으로서의 연기자 감정과 극 중 상황 속 인물로서의 연기자 감정이 그 발생에 있어서 유사하다고 바라본다.
이러한 전제에 따라 연구자는 세 가지 흐름 즉 ‘장면 전 감정 발생’, ‘장면 속 감정 발생’, 그리고 ‘감정 발생과 인물형상화 사이의 연관성’을 논의하였다. 장면 전 감정 발생에 관한 논의는 동시대 감정 담론 중 인지주의와 비인지주의 입장을 중심으로 진행되었다. 장면 속 감정 발생에 관한 논의는 무대 위 상황을 실제 지각함으로써 감정이 발생한다는 마이즈너의 제안을, 퍼스(Charles Sanders Peirce)의 개념과 지각에 관한 행화주의적 견해(enactive views of perception)에 따라 논의하였다. 마지막으로 감정 발생과 인물형상화에 관한 논의는 인간 정체성에 관한 현대 철학적 논의에 비추어 진행되었다. 본 연구는, 앞에서 언급한 바와 같이, 연기자의 감정 발생에 관한 실제적이고 경험적인 연구에 이바지하고, 인물형상화 연구의 기반을 마련할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to discuss the actors’ emotions in theatrical circumstances according to contemporary emotion theories based on the suggestions of Sanford Meisner. I carried out this study under the following three conditions. First, this study aims at the academic and theoretical analysis on the actors’ emotions, and the empirical research related to this discussion should be conducted. Second, despite the discussion on the universality of emotions, I suppose that emotions are cultural and social phenomena and cannot always be clearly indicated and described in specific words. Third, this study was conducted on the condition that the emotions of actors as natural people and those in theatrical situations are not largely distinguished.
Based on these premises, I discussed three points as follow: actors’ emotions before the scene, actors’ emotions in the scene, and the relations between actors’ emotions and characterisation. The discussion about actors’ emotions before the scene was based on the cognitive and noncognitive positions of contemporary emotion discourses. The discussion on actors’ emotions in the scene was based on Sanford Meissner's suggestion that emotions are generated by the actual perception of the situation on the stage, which is supported by the concept of Charles Sanders Peirce and the enactive perception theories. Finally, the discussion on the actors’ emotions and characterisation was carried out in the light of the modern philosophical discussion of human identity. This study, as mentioned before, is believed to be the theoretical basis of practical and empirical research, and to lay the groundwork for the study of the actors’ characterisation.
