질 들뢰즈의 이미지 존재론: 물질의 구성요소와 공외연성을 중심으로 (Gilles Deleuze’s image ontology: The coextensive components of matter)

초록

본고는 인식 행위에서 물질의 보이지 않고 지각하기 힘든 특성이 변화시키는 의미와 관계를 다루고자 한다. 연구자는 존재론적 물음이자 문제를 던지기 위해 물질의 공외연적 특성을 방법론으로 택하였다. 인간의 자유의지는 미리 규정되어 있지 않고, 스스로 창조하는 특성을 가진다. 본 연구의 의의는 이미지가 인간의 자유의지이자 의지적 표현 및 내용이라고 본 들뢰즈의 관점을 다루는 데 있다. 들뢰즈는 인간의 의지를 오성보다 더 상위에 두었는가? 혹은 오성을 의지보다 더 상위에 두었는가? 이미지를 통한 들뢰즈의 자유의지에 관한 견해는 그가 주의주의자인지 혹은 주지주의자인지에 관한 논의를 뛰어넘는다. 이미지는 이미 의지나 오성을 가지고 있는 물질이기도 하면서, 인식 범위에서 벗어나 있는 비물질이기도 하다. 또한, 물질의 비물질성을 포착하도록 만들면서, 물질과 비물질의 경계 위에 있는 형식이다. 지각행위의 비결정성 혹은 절대적 자율성으로 인해, 이미지는 선험적으로 주어진 조건이 아니다. 이미지는 주의주의와 주지주의의 이분법적 관점을 전복시킨다. 보기나 읽기 등의 대상이자 경험 자체인 이미지는 다른 감각 정보와 더불어 시각 정보를 포괄하면서, 펼친다. 이미지는 촉지각적 정보들을 자신 안에 요소들로 담고, 다른 감각 정보들과 분리 및 결합하면서, 지각적 대상이자 감각 기호가 된다. 이미지는 물질 덩어리에서 개념이나 관념들을 걸러내는 인식 과정을 구축하는 의지이다. 이 과정에서, 개념이나 관념들은 언제나 수용체를 왕래한다. 수용체는 이미지 요소들을 교차하고 결합하며 빈 곳으로 남겨놓기도 한다. 사유는 외연적 공간을 해체하면서, 감성적 시간을 새롭게 경험한다. 질적인 공간에서 풀려나 무-의식의 속도차에 빠져드는 지각행위는 외연과 연장을 공통으로 분배 및 배분하면서, 이미지와 관련한 자유의지를 향해 묻고 문제를 제기한다. 외연적인 것들이 강렬도 안으로 해체되면서, 존재는 스스로 이미지의 형식을 연역적으로 추론할 수 있는 감성적 필연성을 자유의지로 가진다.

영어초록

This research was intended to examine the meanings and relationships that are altered by the invisible and imperceptible properties of matter in the act of perception. Human free will is not predetermined and has the characteristic of self-creation. This study is meaningful in that it analyzed Deleuze’s perspective that images are reflections of human free will as well as volitional expressions and content. Did Deleuze believe human will to be transcendent of reason, or was he convinced that the latter goes beyond the former? His perspective of free will through images extends beyond the discussion of whether he is an intellectualist or a voluntarist. An image is not only matter that we already possess but also an immaterial component that is out of the scope of our perception. Moreover, it is a form that lies on the border between matter and immateriality, making it possible to capture the immateriality of matter. Given the indeterminacy or absolute autonomy of perceptual actions, an image is not an a priori condition. The image subverts the dichotomous view of voluntarism and intellectualism. The image, which is the object of seeing or reading, and the experience itself unfold visual information while encompassing it along with other sensory information. An image also contains haptic information as elements within itself, separates and combines it with other sensory information, and becomes a perceptual object and a sensory sign. An image is a will that constructs a cognitive process wherein concepts or ideas are filtered from a mass of matter. In this process, concepts or ideas always come and go through a receptor, which maps the intersection, union, and empty sets of image elements. Thinking deconstructs extensive space and experiences a new sensible time. The perceptual action, which is released from the qualitative space and falls into the speed difference of the unconscious, distributes and shares extension and expansion in common. To probe into the free will conveyed through images, the researcher chose the coextensive properties and diagrams of matter as components of this study’s methodology. As extensive objects are deconstructed into intensity, beings have the sensible necessity of deductively inferring the form of an image by themselves as a manifestation of their free will.
