초록

쿠자누스는 후기 작품인 『공놀이』(De ludo globi)에서 원형성이 의미하는 상징성에 대한 철학적인 탐구를 모색했다. 개념적인 원형성은 본래의 원상인 비가시적인 완전한 원형성과 가시적으로 볼 수 있는 원형적인 것들 사이에 존재론적인 중간적 특성을 지닌다. 쿠자누스는 공놀이에서 개념적 원형성이 드러내는 가시적인 원형성을 통해서 그 이면에 자리 잡고 있는 신적 본질로서 절대적으로 무한한 원형성을 탐구한다. 여기서 근원적인 원형성은 신의 단순성과 다수성을 상징하는 점에 의해 최고로 표현되며, 완전한 원형성은 비가시적인 점과 동일하다. 이러한 관점에서 공놀이에서 9개의 동심원으로 이루어진 중심점을 향해서 공을 굴리는 것이 목표이지만, 이러한 목표는 완전히 도달될 수 없이 근사치로만 접근된다. 더욱이 여기서 한쪽 면이 오목하게 파인 공은 앞뒤로 왔다갔다 하는 나선형의 운동을 하기 때문에 중심점에 이르는데 어려움을 야기한다. 게다가 공을 굴리는 사람의 의도에서 벗어나는 여러 우연적 요소들도 공의 움직임에 영향을 미친다. 그럼에도 불구하고 다시 새롭게 반복해서 공을 굴림으로써 우연적 요소들을 감쇠시켜 정교하게 공을 굴리는 기술을 향상시키는 것은 각자의 주관적인 관점들을 반성의 깊이와 숙련을 통해서 진리에 다가가는 지혜의 놀이가 추구하는 바이다. 이러한 반복적인 시도는 반성을 통해서 끊임없이 자기 자신에로 되돌아가는 정신의 원환적인 본질을 반영한다. 인간 정신은 절대적으로 완전한 구로서 최대의 세계인 신과 현실적으로 최대인 세계인 우주를 내적으로 반영한다. 이렇게 소우주로서 개별 인간은 하나이고 완전한 우주에 대한 표상을 다양한 형태로 고유하게 담지하고 있다. 더 나아가서 공놀이에서 의도에서 벗어나는 다양한 요소들은 예측할 수 없는 결과를 야기함으로써 긴장을 해소하는 여유로운 웃음을 즐기게 한다. 이는 인간의 정신이 고안해서 창조하는 놀이에서 본질적인 자유를 의식함으로써 놀이 자체에는 없는 초월적인 의미를 드러내는 것이다. 이렇게 공놀이를 통해서 얻게 되는 한계 없는 도약의 기쁨은 무한한 진리를 향한 지혜의 놀이로서 반영된다. 공놀이에서 9개의 동심원을 지나서 목표인 중심점에 공을 멈추려고 시도하듯이, 인간 정신은 끊임없는 사유의 투사를 통해서 무한한 진리의 중심점에 접근하게 된다. 외적으로 펼쳐진 최대의 구인 동시에 가장 내적으로 펼쳐진 점의 합치로서 신적 본질은 신과 세계 간의 단일성을 함축한다. 이는 최대의 구인 신 자신이 구로서의 세계와 인간 정신에 현재적으로 내재하는 동시에, 모든 원과 구가 해소되는 점으로서 초월적으로 숨겨져 남아있다는 것을 의미한다. 이렇게 쿠자누스는 신, 세계, 인간의 관련성을 공놀이를 매개로 수학적이고 기하학적인 표상, 특히 원형성을 통해서 이해한다. 이로써 쿠자누스는 인간 정신의 자유롭고 창조적인 본질의 성취가 자신의 무한한 잠재력으로 무한한 진리인 신 자체에 고유하고 다양한 형태로 접근할 수 있다는 점을 강조한다.

In his later work, De ludo globi Nicholas of Cusa sought a philosophical inquiry into the symbolism of rotundity. Conceptual rotundity has an ontological intermdeiate characteristic between the original form, the invisible complete rotundity and the visible rund things. Nicholaus explores the absolutely infinite rotundity as a divine essence behind it through such visible rotundity in the Game of Spheres. Here, the fundamental rotundity is best expressed by the point that symbolizes the simplicity and plurality of God, and the complete rotundity is the same as the invisible point. From this point of view, the goal is to roll the ball toward the center of nine concentric circles in the Game of Spheres, but this goal cannot be reached completely and is only approximated. Moreover, the ball with one side recessed here makes it difficult to reach the center point because it moves back and forth in a spiral motion. In addition, several contingent factors that deviate from the intention of the person rolling the ball also influence the motion of the ball. Nevertheless, to attenuate accidental elements and elaborately to improve skills to roll the ball by repeatedly rolling the ball again and again is the pursuit of the play of wisdom that approaches the truth through depth and skill of reflection on each subjective viewpoint. These repetitive attempts reflect the circumferential nature of the mind, constantly returning to oneself through reflection. The human mind reflects internally God as a perfect sphere, the largest world, and the universe, which is actually the largest world. In this way, as a microcosmos, individual humans contain uniquely representations of the one and perfect universe in various forms. Furthermore, various elements that are out of the intention in the Game of Spheres cause unpredictable results, thereby allowing you to enjoy a relaxed laugh that relieves tension. This is to reveal the transcendent meaning that game itself does not have by being conscious of the essential freedom in the Game of Spheres devised and created by the human mind. In this way, the joy of an unlimited leap through the Game of Spheres is reflected as a game of wisdom toward infinite truth. The human mind approaches the central point of infinite truth, as if trying to stop the ball at the central point through nine concentric circles through the constant projection of thought. The human mind approaches the center of infinite truth through the constant projection of thoughts, just as it attempts to stop the ball at the center point, which is the goal through nine concentric circles in the Game of Spheres. The divine essence as the coincidence of the greatest sphere exfolded externally and at the same time as the union of the most enfolded points implies the unity between God and the world. This means that the greatest sphere, God himself is presently inherent in the world as a sphere and in human mind, and at the same time, it remains transcendentally hidden as a point where all circles and spheres are resolved. In this way, Nicholas understands the relationship between God, the world, and humans through mathematic and geometric representations, especially rotundity, by a medium of the Game of Spheres. In this way, Nichols emphasizes that the achievement of the free and creative nature of the human mind is accomplished in various forms, inherent to God itself, the infinite truth with its infinite potential. Hereby Nichols emphasizes that the achievement of the free and creative nature of the human mind takes place in a unique and diverse form of approaching the infinite truth, God itself, with its infinite potential.
