오에 겐자부로 『타오르는 푸른 나무(燃えあがる緑の木)』론 - 기록자로서의 ‘나’, 행동자로서의 주인공 -

초록

大江健三郎の 燃えあがる緑の木 三部作は、第一部の 「救い主」が殴られるまで から、第二部 揺れ動く＜ヴァシレーション＞ 、そして第三部 大いなる日に に至る、長編小説である。この作品は、ギー兄さんという一人の青年とサッチャンという両性具有者を中心に、新しい宗教の設立過程を通して人間の救済の可能性の問題を問いかけている。男から女へと転換をなしとげた、サッチャンという両性具有者が作中人物として登場し、さらに物語の語り手の役割を果たす。多くの先行研究では、両性具有の持つ奇異のイメージに気を取られたあまり、物語におけるサッチャンの本来の役割を見逃しているところが少なくない。ギー兄さんや教会の物語を記録に残す人は他にも存在するし、その記録の形も多様である。しかし、サッチャンはそれを「小説」として書くし、また、「私」として書く。サッチャンとギー兄さんからみられる記録者と行動者の組み合わせは、書く立場と、書かれる立場を自由に転換しながら物語を書いてゆく技法と苦悩の仕組みである。大江自身が生まれ育った四国の森の村の、神話と伝承のはらんでいる独自の宇宙観と死生観は、大江にとって大切な主題として、異なった語り方で繰り返して書いてきた。本作品で、ギー兄さんを書くサッチャンを通して見えるのは、その背後に、両極に揺れ動く現実の中で、小説家として「書く」という行為に苦悩する大江の真摯な姿である。両極に分かれた世界の中で、作家としてどのように生きていくか、または、作家として生きていくということはどのような意味があるかに対する省察である。書くことへの苦労、重要性、方法などが、サッチャンの記録行為の中に凝縮されているといえる。

The trilogy of Kenzaburo Oe, The Flaming Green Tree is a novel which consists of Part I, “Until a Savior Is Whacked in the Head”(1993), Part II,“Vacillation”(1994), and Part III, “On the Great Day.”(1995)Satchan, who appears as a hermaphrodite conversing from man to woman, plays the role of the narrator in the story. Because of the character’s peculiar personality as a hermaphrodite, many researchers have taken notice of this character. However,distracted by this queer image, researches overlooked the vital role of this character as a narrator.
Analyzing the narration of Satchan, one will realize that Satchan is not only the narrator of a text but also the recorder of a grand narrative. This grand narrative is about the soul and death of Brother Gee, and it is very important to consider how the narrator, Satchan connects oneself to Brother Gee by changing one’s viewpoints and thoughts.
It is Satchan who can represents most effectively the ideal “writing act” of the author. Needless to say, there appears many characters who record the story of Brother Gee and the church, so the novel shows several forms of recording. However,it is noteworthy that Satchan writes this down as a "novel" and writes it down as "I." Conversing the position of writing and being written at will, the combination of the recorder and performer which is seen in Satchan and Brother Gee, reveals the skill and agony of writing itself.
Its original viewpoint of universe and mortality latent in the myth and fairytale of the Shikoku’s forest villages where Oe was born and raised, was repeatedly written as an important theme for Oe by different ways of narration. What can be seen by Satchan who writes about Brother Gee, is the seriousness of Oe struggling before the act of writing. It is a reflection on how to live as a writer or, what is the meaning of living as a writer in a world divided into two extremes. In a word, the struggle,importance and method of writing are condensed in the act of Satchan’s recording.
