초록

이 논문의 목적은 백석의 시에 구축된 방의 구조와 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 백석의 시에는 방이나 집이 자주 활용된다. 그것들은 그의 시에서 단순한 소재나 제재 또는 시의 배경으로 사용되기도 하지만 그것을 넘어서는 인식 차원의 공간으로 그 의미가 넓어지기도 한다. 그 방에서 화자는 화자의 외부 세계에 대한 체험과 그것의 주체적 변용 과정을 자기 나름의 방식으로 형상화한다. 그러므로 백석의 시에 나타나는 방의 공간 구조를 살필 때, 그곳에 위치하는 대상들의 관계를 파악하는 것은 백석이 어떠한 형식과 내용으로 현실을 구조화하는지 살필 수 있는 유효한 잣대가 된다. 이 논문은 '방'을 공통적으로 시의 공간으로 설정하고 있는「여우난곬族」(1935. 12)과「南新義州 柳洞 朴時逢方」(1948. 10)을 분석의 대상 텍스트로 삼는다. 두 작품은 초기와 후기를 대표하는 시이면서도 매우 다른 내용과 형식으로 이루어져있기 때문이다.
백석의 초기 작품인「여우난골족」의 '방'은 수평적인 구조로 이루어져 있다. 그방은 가족 공동의 공간이며 고향의 공간이다. '방'은 유년의 화자를 통해, 가족이 점유했던 삶의 공간을 수렴하는 곳이다. 중요한 것은 그 방에 나열되는 모든 개체와 사물들이 특정한 위계없이 수평의 관계로 공존한다는 점이다. 이 시의 수평적 구조는 구체성을 확보한 시어의 나열에서도 확인된다. 그리고 과거의 시간을 현재화하는 방법으로도 강조된다. 정리하면「여우난곬족」의 '방'은 자신이 경험하는 사람과 세계를 수평적으로 확대하는 공간으로 기능한다. 백석의 후기 작품인「남신의주 유동 박시봉방」의 '방'은 수평적인 구조에서 수직적인 구조로의 변모를 보인다. 그 방은 더 이상 가족이나 타인들이 연대하지 않는 타향의 공간이며 개인의 공간이다. 성인의 화자는 방에 누워 과거의 일들을 반성하고 부끄러워한다. 그것은 결국 방의 공간 구조를 수직적인 방향으로 바꾸는데, 시에서 그것은 '갈매나무'로 상징된다. 이 시의 수직적 구조는 관념적인 시어의 나열과 현재의 시간을 과거화하는 방법으로 구현된다. 이러한 방의 공간 구조 변화는 백석의 유랑 과정을 통해 이루어진다.「여우난곬族」과「남신의주 유동 박시봉방」의 사이에 위치한「山宿-山中吟」의 '방'은「여우난곬族」과 같은 수평적인 구조 속에서 타인의 삶을 내면화하는 공간이다. 그리고「힌 바람벽이 있어」의 '방'은 「남신의주 유동 박시봉방」의 '방'과 유사한 면이 있지만, 화자가 구축하고 있는 공간의 구조가 '힌 바람벽'이라는 수평의 축으로 이루어지고 있어서 수직적 공간 구조가 형성되기 전의 예비 단계로 파악할 수 있다.
이상으로 백석 시에 나타나는 방의 공간 구조가 어떤 방식으로 구축되고 변모하는지, 그리고 그 원인은 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 이러한 방법은 백석이 현실을 어떻게 인식하는가에 대한 유효한 접근이 될 것이다.

영어초록

The aim of this dissertation is to reveal the structure and meaning of the room which is constructed in the poem of Paek S?k. To poem of the Paek S?k the room or the house is applied frequently. Those subject matter or the material which is simple from his poem or with background is used but the meaning comes to be wide does in space of the recognition dimension which passes over it. The persona against the outside world of the persona experiences from that room and subject transfiguration process it in method of own depending on form. When it is like that observing the space structure of the room which appears in poem of the Paek S?k, grasping the relationship of the objects which are located to that place the Paek S?k actuality with what kind of type and contents structure, is a possibility of observing and becomes the method which is effective. In this study, I analyze two poems which set the room in poetic space. Because two works initially and are the poem which represents a postscript because very different is become accomplished in contents and type and they are.
In the second chapter, I analyze the structure of the room of「여우난곬族」who is a early poem of the Paek S?k. The room of「여우난곬族」of the Paek S?k is become accomplished with horizontal structure. That room is space of family commonness and it is a space of hometown. That room is joint space of the family and observatioing the persona of childhood, it is a place which collects the space of the life which the family occupies. Being important the court rank whose all individuals and the things which are arrayed in that room are specific it coexists it is a point without with horizontal relationship. This poem horizontal structure is confirmed even from array of the poetic word which secures a concreteness. and The horizontal structure of this poem is emphasized even with the method which is actualized the hour of past. When it arranges, the room of「여우난곬族」function does in the space where it magnifies the person and the world which oneself experiences horizontally.
In the third chapter, I analyze the structure of the room of「남신의주유동 박시봉방」which the Paek S?k writes in postscript. The room is visible the transfiguration with perpendicular structure from horizontal structure. That room compared to the above family or the others the regiment it is a space on the other direction which it does not do and it is a space of the individual. The persona the of adult lies down to the room and it reflects it feels shy one field of past and. It finally the place where it changes the space structure of the room with perpendicularity direction, it is symbolized with 갈매kal-mae tree. The array of conceptional poetic word emphasizes the perpendicular structure of this poem, and it is embodied even with the method which expresses the hour of present time with past tense. The space structure change of like this room leads and vagrancy process of the Paek S?k it becomes accomplished consecutive.
