초록

주지하다시피 고대 중국의 음악은 제작주체와 운용주체에 따라 개인적인 성격과 제도적인 성격으로 이원화되어 발전하였다. 제도적인 입장에서 음악을 제정한 목적은 개인적인 향락을 위해서가 아니라 교화를 통한 윤리도덕의 회복과 정도를 확립하기 위해서였다. 그리하여 역대 봉건왕조에서는 음악을 통해 이루어지는 교화 자체가 정치를 저울질하는 표준이 되기도 하였다. 物心의 조화를 이룬 음악은 중국 고대사회에서 인치의 이상적인 경계인 “和”의 표상이었다. “和爲貴”를 강조한 공자가 이런 음악을 개인수양과 정치적 이상을 실현하는 덕목으로 중시한 것은 당연하였다. 마음이 평화로워지면 덕이 조화를 이루고, 덕이 조화를 이루면 선정을 베풀게 된다고 보았던 것이다. 이런 이념적 배경하에서 봉건 지식계층을 비롯한 정치적인 지배세력은 전통적으로 음악의 형식과 내용, 예의 형식과 내용이 완벽하게 결합되도록 추구하였다. 이러한 결합은 아악의 심미적 이상을 제고하는데 결정적인 역할을 하였으며, 모든 예술을 측량하는 미학의 표준적 가치를 지니게 만들었다. 이렇게 정치와 교육현장에서 실제적인 효험이 입증되면서부터 전통음악은 봉건 유교사회에서 줄곧 지배적인 문화사상의 하나로서 자리매김을 하게 되었으나, 그와 대립각을 세웠던 제자백가들의 反儒的인 음악론, 가령, 墨家의 <非樂篇> 등은 관심대상에서 멀어지게 되었다.
본고는 바로 「鄭聲淫」에 관한 해묵은 논쟁이 계속된 이면에는 상술한 이념적 가치와 모순대립에 기인하는 바도 적지 않다고 보는 측면에서 문제의 본질에 접근해 보고자 시도한 것이다.
결론적으로 「鄭聲淫」과 「放鄭聲」은 중국 봉건 유교사회의 문화사상의 성격과 노선을 상징적으로 보여주는 사례이다. 「鄭聲淫」의 발원주체가 공자였으며, 공자에 의해 가장 비판적으로 제기된 문화현상 중의 하나였다. 「鄭聲淫」은 중국 고대 최고 예술단계인 궁중아악의 심미적 이상을 방어하기 위한 문화적 마지노선이었고, 「放鄭聲」은 예악문화의 정치적 목적을 달성하기 위한 문화적 자구책이었다. 그러나 「鄭聲淫」은 공자의 다른 담론에서도 흔히 보이는 현상처럼 구체적이고 심층적인 물증이나 부언설명이 뒤따르지 않았기 때문에 문화규범의 테두리 안에서 그 심미가치의 대역폭을 가늠하기는 쉽지 않다. 도대체 어느 정도의 수준에 이르러야 「淫」의 수준이라고 말할 수 있는가? 이는 매우 모호하고 우려되는 부분이다. 공자 이래 「淫」의 심미가치에 대한 논쟁은 그칠 줄 몰랐지만 막상 심미기준에 대해서는 분명한 잣대를 제시하지 못했기 때문에 훗날 송대 도학자들에 의해 극심한 가치혼란을 초래한 빌미를 제공한 것처럼 문화권력의 잠재적 충동을 자극하여 사회적 문제로 비화될 소지를 남기게 되었다. 「鄭聲淫」은 제도적인 제약이나 문화지리적인 편협성에서 벗어나 서민적인 순수성을 지향하던 속악의 발전과정에서 이해되어져야 한다고 본다. 이 「鄭聲淫」으로 표방되는 춘추전국시대의 속악의 유행 범위나 제작주체, 성격 등에 대해서는 역시 해묵은 과제이기는 하지만 재조명의 필요성이 절실하다 하겠다.

As we all knows, according to production subject or user subject the music of ancient China was developed with the character which is personalized or institutionalized.The objective which establishes music from the position which is institutional in order to establish the proper reason and recover the ethical morality which leads an edification instead of personal enjoyment. It did so and music it led the standard where edification oneself which becomes accomplished weighs a politics becoming, it did from successive feudal dynasty. The music where the mind of nature and the human being accords the guard which is an ideal of man governed system from the Chinese ancient society is the ideal [harmony]. [The ideal harmony is most valuable thing at any case] is Confucius whom it emphasizes like this music must be personal moral culture and considering seriously with the virtue which comes true the above politics was natural. As the mind which accords in peace, the virtue will be in harmony, also able to control lascivious status. The dominative influence which is political including a feudal knowledge class from under like this ideological background traditionally form and matter, ardent form and matter of music perfectly, in order to be combined, it was pursued.Like this combination it raises the above esthetic appreciation of imperial court music did the duty which is decisive. And it made the standard value of the aesthetics keep which measures all arts and it made make. When like this with politics the effect which is actual from education field was given proof, the western traditional music all the time as one of the cultural ideologies which are dominative was made to do every place from the feudal Confucianism society.It draws the music theory where the disciples hundred who builds the opposing angle is opposed in gas price of the field, for example, the Mojia's <non-music chapter> etc, made become more distant from the interest object.
