만당의 고악보 연구 (Study on the Classical Music Notes of Mandang(Lee Hye-ku))

초록

만당 이혜구는 한국음악사, 한국음악이론, 문헌학 등 다양한 분야에서 큰 업적을 남겼다. 본고에서는 만당이 이룬 많은 업적 가운데 고악보 연구 부분에 대한 성과와 의의를 논하기 위하여 만당의 고악보 연구 내용을 고악보 시가 해석과 장단 연구, 악조․형식 및 악곡 연구, 기보법, 역보 및 주석의 성과 등으로 구분하여 살펴보고 그 의의와 업적을 종합적으로 조망하는 데에 역점을 두었다.
만당은 고악보 연구를 다양한 관점에서 접근하였다. 그 중에서도 정간보의 시가 해석과 장단에 대한 연구는 가장 중요한 업적인데, 정간보의 시가 및 대상 해석, 비정간보의 시가 해석의 문제, 그리고 정단․대강과 장단형의 관계와 그에 의한 템포의 문제를 다룬 연구는 고악보 연구의 결정이자 핵심이라고 할 수 있다.
만당의 고악보 연구는 정간보의 시가 해석와 장단의 문제 외에도 고악보에 전하는 악곡을 통한 악조, 형식, 악곡구조에 대해 포괄적으로 다루었다. 그 연구 내용은 고악보에 담긴 과거의 음악을 현재와 연계하는 통시적 이해의 성과를 이루었다.
고악보에 대한 만당이 이룬 업적은 정간보 해석의 문제와 악곡의 분석, 고악보의 기보법과 악보의 연대 고찰, 고악보의 역주와 역보에 이르기까지 매우 광범위하게 이루어졌으며, 그 내용은 한국음악사의 흐름을 관철하는 견고한 시각을 마련하였으며 한국음악의 이론을 이루는 근간을 이루었다.

영어초록

Lee Hye-ku (also known by the pen name, Mandang) made great achievements in various fields, such as the history of Korean music, Korean musical theory and bibliography. Among many of his achievements, this study discusses his achievement in research on classical music note and its meaning. The discussion explores the contents of study on classical music notes divided into the study on interpretation of time value with classical music notes and rhythm, musical tone/structure and study on melodies, music notation, translated notes and annotation, etc., focusing on summarizing their meanings and his achievements.
In his study on classical music notes, the greatest emphasis is thought to have been put on the interpretation of time value in Jeongganbo (Korean traditional music score) and study on its rhythm. Mandang’s study on the time value in Jeongganbo and interpretation of its subject, issues regarding the interpretation of time value in non-Jeongganbo, relationship between Jeongdan/Daegang and beat types and issues regarding tempos is believed to be the fruit and core of study on classical music scores.
Mandang approached his study on classical music scores from various aspects. In addition to the interpretation of time value in Jeongganbo and the issue of beat, he comprehensively handled tone, structure, melodic structure with regard to melodies implied in classical music scores. His study led to making achievements in diachronic understanding on connection between the past music contained classical music scores and the present.
His achievements in classical music scores were very extensive, covering the issue regarding interpretation of Jeongganbo, analysis of tunes, chronical review of music notation and scores for classical music scores, and translated musical annotation and notes of classical music scores. The results of his study provided a solid insight into outlining the trend of Korean music history through literature and laid a foundation on the theory of Korean music.
