고문헌으로 읽은 일본열도 내 백제계・중국계 이주민 (Ancient documents on Baekje and Chinese migrants in the Japanese archipelago)

초록

5세기 백제와 고구려에서는 華北전쟁을 계기로 한반도에 이주한 중국계 지식인과 그 후손들이 활약했다. 또한 백제는 이들 중 일부를 왜 왕권 아래로 보내 왜국과의 동맹 강화를 꾀하였다. 중국계 이주민들은 중국에서 유래한 ‘家’를 바탕으로 그 姓과 문화를 후손에게 계승해 각지에서 정치적 지위를 얻었다.
그런데 왜국에서는 중국계 이주민의 姓과 문화가 6세기에 계승되지 않고 왜 왕권이 편성한 씨족 조직으로 흡수되어 간다. 한편 고구려나 백제에서는 중국계 인사들의 姓과 문화가 6세기 이후에도 계승되는데, 이러한 차이는 왜국과 백제나 고구려의 對中 외교 자세 차이가 영향을 미쳤을 것이다. 중국계 이주민과 그 후손들은 특히 對中 외교에서의 활약이 기대되었는데, 왜국에서는 5세기 후반을 마지막으로 중국 왕조와의 직접교류를 오래 중단하면서 그 필요성이 현저히 낮아진 것으로 보인다.
그러나 왜국으로는 6세기 이후에도 중국에서 유래한 문화가 한반도에서 유입되었다. 그 대표적인 사례가 백제가 왜국에 보낸 여러 博士와 승려들이다. 이 중 박사에 대해서는 중국적인 姓을 가진 사람이많아 5세기 이전에 백제에 포섭된 중국계 이주민의 후손이 포함돼 있었던 것으로 보인다. 백제에서 건너온 박사・승려들은 著書로 그 지식을 왜인에게 전수하였다. 또 백제에서 이주한 수공업자도 그 기술을 왜인에게 전수했다.
7세기 후반 왜국에는 멸망한 백제로부터 많은 이주자가 한꺼번에 몰려왔다. 이때 백제계 이주민들은계층적인 확산과 다민족적 구성을 통해 멸망 이전 백제의 사회 구성을 대체로 반영한 것이었다. 또한본국 멸망을 계기로 이주한 舊백제 지배층은 왜 왕권 하에서 官人으로 포섭되자 백제시대에 축적한 지식과 능력을 이용하여 이후의 일본역사를 규정하는 왜국에서 일본 율령국가로의 탈바꿈에 크게 뒷받침하였다. 그 실상은 6세기 백제 이주민의 양태와 유사한 측면이 있다.

영어초록

In the 5th century, Baekje and Goguryeo had Chinese intellectuals and their descendants who migrated to the Korean peninsula in the wake of the conflict in northern China. In addition, Baekje sent some of them to the Wa kingdom in order to strengthen the alliance with Wa. The Chinese immigrants inherited their family name and culture from their descendants, based on their Chinese-derived "family"（家）, and gained political positions in various regions.
In Wa, however, the family names and culture of the Chinese immigrants were not inherited in the 6th century, and they were absorbed into the clan organization formed by the Wa kingdom. On the other hand, in Goguryeo and Baekje, the family name and culture of the Chinese people were inherited from the 6th century onwards. These differences may be attributed to the different attitudes of the Wa, Baekje and Koguryo towards China and abroad.Chinese immigrants and their descendants were expected to play an active role, especially in diplomacy with China. However, in the 6th century, Wa ceased direct exchange with the Chinese dynasty, and the need for them seems to have been significantly reduced.
However, in Wa, Chinese culture continued to flow from the Korean peninsula after the 6th century. This is exemplified by the hakase（博士） and monks priests that Baekje sent to Wa. Many of these hakase had Chinese surnames and were probably descendants of Chinese immigrants who had been incorporated into Baekje before the 5th century. The hakase and monks who came from Baekje passed on their knowledge to the Wa through the use of books. In addition, the craftsmen who migrated from Baekje also passed on their skills to the Wa.
In the latter half of the 7th century, a large number of immigrants from the defunct Baekje came to Wa at once. At this time, the Baekje immigrants had a hierarchical spread and multi-ethnic composition that largely reflected the social structure of Baekje just before its fall. In addition, the former Baekje ruling class that migrated after the fall of their home country were taken in as officials under the Wa monarchy, and used the knowledge and skills they had accumulated during the Baekje period to greatly support the transition from Wa to Japanese Ritsuryo state, which defined the history of Japan from then on. This was similar to the situation of the people who migrated from Baekje in the 6th century.
