경상도지역 민요에 나타나는 경토리의 변화양상 연구－경상남도 함양을 중심으로－ (A Study on the Aspects of Transition in Gyung-Toriin Gyeongsang Province Folksongs: －With priority given to Hamyang in South Gyeongsang Province－)

초록

전래민요의 지역적 구분은 언어와 지역성을 반영하여 다섯 권역으로 나뉘며, 이러한 구분은 음악적으로도 거의 유사하다. 그러나 같은 권역의 민요라도 지역에 따라 다른 내용을 드러내거나 외부의 민요에 영향을 받아 변화한 모습들이 보인다.
특히 경기 통속민요의 영향으로 각 지역 토속민요에 변화가 생기거나 경기민요를 그 지역 민요의 특성에 맞게 변화시켜 부르는 내용이 자주 보이는데, 본고에서는 이러한 점에 주목하여 경상남도 함양의 민요를 분석하였다.
경상남도 함양의 민요에는 경기민요를 농사소리에 쓰는 경우가 자주 보이는데, 이렇게 농사소리에 경기민요를 차용할 경우에는 그 음악적 내용이 변화하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
그 변화된 내용은 첫째, 인접진행을 위주로 하는 경토리가 메나리토리권에서 불리면서 도약진행하는 선율로 변화된다.
둘째, 경토리와 메나리토리의 결합뿐 아니라 경토리와 메나리토리, 그리고 육자배기토리의 결합도 보인다.
셋째, 메나리토리와 경토리의 혼용으로 한 악곡에 두 가지 토리가 동시에 나타나는 현상이 보인다. 음역의 아래 부분에서는 메나리토리가, 윗부분에서는 경토리가 쓰이는 것이 그 예이다.
경기민요의 전국적인 확산은 매우 오래전부터 진행되어 왔다. 민요를 채집하는 과정에서 그 지역의 특성을 가지지 않는 외부의 민요는 채집 대상에서 제외된 경우도 많았다. 특히 경기민요가 대표적인 예일 것이다.
그러나 외부의 민요가 그 지역의 민요와 만나 새로운 형태의 민요를 만들어내는 것이 확인된 이상 이제 각 지역에 분포된 경기민요와 그 밖의 지역민요들에 대한 채집도 소홀히 하지 않아야 할 것으로 생각되며, 이와 관련된 연구가 활발히 진행되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

Traditional folksongs in which diverse local dialects and characteristics have been reflected are classified into five according to geographic region: Gyeonggi folksongs, Seodo folksongs, Namdo folksongs, Dongbu folksongs and Jeju folksongs. The geographic division of traditional folksongs is largely in line with the division of the songs according to musical characteristics.
To be specific, however, even folksongs that belong to the same bloc might be different from each other in musical characteristics. The unique local colors of some folksongs have faded or changed with the lapse of time owing to the strong influence of traditional or popular folksongs from other regions. Some folksongs that belong to different areas have both changed over time due to mutual influence. Indeed, traditional folksongs are quite diverse in terms of musicality.
According to the recent record of folksongs, there are the greatest changes in the weight and music of Gyeonggi folksongs that are sung in regions other than Gyeonggi Province. Gyeonggi folksongs have long been widespread all across the nation like popular songs. The spread of Gyeonggi folksongs seems to be necessarily attributed to the influence of various media, and another reason seems that the popularity of folksongs have gradually been on the wane.
The fact that Gyeonggi folksongs are sung a lot in regions other than Gyeonggi Province should no longer be overlooked, and what changes they have underwent should no longer be disregarded, either. Rather, it's required to make careful research in these folksongs.
The purpose of this study was to examine the musical characteristics and changes of Gyeonggi folksongs sung in Gyeongsang Province. The findings of the study were as follows:First, gyungi-tori initially focused on conjunct motion, but it was replaced with a skip from bass to four-degree higher tone while this tori was sung in the bloc of menari-tori.
Second, combination between gyung-tori and menari-tori took place, and another combination between gyung-tori and yookjabaegi-tori took place as well due to the impact of yookjabaegi-tori's yosung, which is to vibrate bass.
Third, another change was a mixed use of two different kinds of tori In other words, two different kinds of tori appeared in a single piece of music at the same time instead of creating a new mode.
As it’s ascertained that new form of folksongs were created when local folksongs were mixed with outside folksongs, it shouldn't be overlooked to collect Gyeonggi folksongs that are sung in different regions, and other folksongs also should be collected at the same time. Besides, how folksongs have been affected by each other and by being sung in other regions should carefully be considered.
