천부경과 태극의 철학 (Cheonbu-kyeong and the Philosophy of Tae-Geuk)

초록

천부경 (이하 생략)은 궁극의 개념을 담았기에 기본적으로 그 텍스트는 해석에 열려있다고 할 것이다. 하지만 천부경이 사상을 전달하기 위해 채택한 기본 상징인 수(數)의 의미에 대해서도 아직까지 합의된 해석에 이르지 못한 것은 안타까운 일이다. 그런데 이와 관련하여 훈민정음 해례본(이하 정음 으로 약칭) 역시 훈민정음자모의 창제원리를 설명하는 과정에서 그를 뒷받침한 태극의 원리를 수의 상징으로 설명하고 있다는 사실이 주목된다. 필자는 정음 에 제시된 수와 천부경의 수를 면밀히 대조한 결과 양자가 같은 의미로 사용되었음을 확인하였다. 그리고 정음 에 제시된 수의 의미를 천부경에 적용할 때 천부경의 태극 철학이 새롭게 드러난다는 사실도확인하였다. 그러므로 본 논문의 연구목적은 정음 에 제시된 수의 의미를 바탕으로 천부경 81자에 대한 새로운해석을 제시하고, 이를 토대로 천부경에 담긴 태극 철학의 내용을 풀어 밝히려는 것이다.
아울러 해석과정에서는 현토작업을 통해 자의적 끊어 읽기를 방지하면서 천부경 텍스트의 의미를 보다 구체화하였고, 어원분석을 통해 텍스트에 담긴 심층적 의미를 파악하고자 하였다. 특히 ‘無(무)’, ‘極(극)’, ‘明(명)’, ‘終(종)’ 의 어원 분석 결과는 해석에 있어 유의미한 차이를 가져옴을 확인했다.
본 논문에서 새로이 밝힌 내용을 몇 가지 예시하면 다음과 같다.
1) 유(有)인 일(一)과 무(無)를 같이 말하는 것이 여타의 경전에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 천부경의 특색인데, 여기서‘無(무)’는 유한한 인간이 인식할 수 없다고 하는 원형적 의미로 쓰였다. 이렇게 보면 해당 구절을 모순없이 이해할수 있다. 이는 초월적 일자가 존재함을 천명하면서도 그 일자가 절대관념화하는 것은 거부하는 의미가 있다. 이 점은천부경 사상 내지 천부경에 제시된 태극 철학의 중요한 특색인데, ‘無(무)’를 이렇게 해석해야 그 의미가 드러난다.
2) 천부경은 하나가 셋으로 분화하는 것이 우주의 완성을 향해 나아가면서도 탕진함 없는 비결이라 말하고 있다. 이러한 대목 역시 여타의 경전에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 내용으로 천부경만의 고유한 특색에 해당한다. 천부경에서 숫자 3이 중요한 상징으로 등장하는 이유는 이 때문이다.
3) 천부경에서 ‘운삼사성환오칠(運三四成環五七)’ 구절은 그동안 해석상의 난제로 남아있던 대목인데, 정음 에제시된 수의 의미를 적용함으로써 논리적인 풀이를 제시하였고 아울러 태극 철학의 내용을 밝힐 수 있었다.

영어초록

Cheonbu-kyeong offers a doctrine for final cause and, thus, in essence its texts are open to different interpretation. However, it is shameful that we still have not reached a clear consensus on the meaning of numbers, which Cheonbu-kyeong adopted in its numeric system as the basic symbols to deliver its ideas. In relation to this, we should pay attention to the fact that Hun-Min- Jeong-Eum Haerye edition( ) also uses the symbol of numbers in explaining the principle of Tae-Geuk, which backs up the principle of creation of the letters of Hun-Min-Jeong- Eum( ). I thoroughly compared numbers in Hun-Min-Jeong-Eum Haerye edition and numbers in Cheonbu-kyeong. As a result, I verified that both ones were used in the identical meaning.
Moreover, I further verified that the Tae-Geuk philosophy of Cheonbu-kyeong newly emerges when the meaning of numbers as used in Hun-Min-Jeong-Eum Haerye edition is applied to Cheonbukyeong.
Therefore, the goal of the study in this thesis is to propose a new interpretation about 81 letters of Cheonbu-kyeong based on the meaning of numbers as used in Hun-Min-Jeong-Eum Haerye edition and, on the basis of this, to clarify the meaning of the Tae-Geuk philosophy contained in Cheonbu-kyeong.
I also made the meaning of Cheonbu-kyeong’s texts more concrete, in order to prevent any arbitrary sporadic reading, by adding Korean endings to classical Chinese texts during the process of interpretation, and through the analysis of the word origins, I tried to comprehend the deeper meaning of the texts. Especially, I confirmed that the analyses of the origins of ‘ ’, ‘ ’, ‘ ’, ‘ ’ had resulted in meaningful differences in their interpretation.
A few examples of the new discoveries proposed by this thesis are as follows: 1) Speaking of One( ), which is existence( ), and non-existence( ) simultaneously is a unique characteristic of Cheonbu-kyeong, which cannot be found in any other scriptures. In Cheonbukyeong, ‘ ’ was used to mean the original meaning, that is, finite humans not being able to perceive. From this perspective, we can understand the relevant paragraph without any contradiction.
It means that the existence of the One( ) is proclaimed but the absolutization of the One is denied. This point is an important characteristic of the Tae-Geuk philosophy presented in Cheonbukyeong, and it is only uncovered when ‘ ’ is interpreted this way.
2) Cheonbu-kyeong states that the division of one into three is the key to the completion of the universe without squandering. This part is also a unique characteristic of Cheonbu-kyeong which cannot be found in any other scriptures. For this reason, the number 3 appears as a significant symbol in Cheonbu-kyeong.
3) The verse ‘ ’ in Cheonbu-kyeong, which has remained as a intricate problem to interpret, was logically explained by applying the meaning of numbers as used in Hun-Min- Jeong-Eum Haerye edition. At the same time, the Tae-Geuk philosophy of Cheonbu-kyeong was revealed.
