CPTED 관점에서 본 공공 안전과 반려견의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Public Safety and Companion Dogs from a CPTED Perspective)

초록

(연구 배경 및 목적) 반려견은 현대 사회에서 사람과 더불어 살아가는 역할을 수행하며, 학제적 관점에서도 심리학, 사회학적으로 가족의 구성원으로 인정받고 있다. 그 결과 반려견 관련 사업과 등록수는 해마다 증가함으로써 반려견 입지와 중요성이 나날이 확장되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그리고 또 다른 사회적 이슈로 매슬로우 욕구 5단계설에 의해 안전한 환경에서 생활하기 위한 욕구의 발현으로 공공 영역에서 정온한 환경을 만들어 주는 범죄예방 환경설계에 대한 사람들의 인식 또한 해를 지날수록 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 이러한 시대적 흐름에 부합하는 이슈들을 접목시켜 범죄예방 환경설계와 반려견이 가진 행동 특성이 공공 안전에 어떠한 영향을 주는지 상관관계에 대해 논증하는 과정에서 도출되는 결과를 통해 반려견과 사람의 공생에 대한 당위성을 제공하고자 한다. (연구 방법) 본 연구는 공공 안전과 반려견의 상관관계를 왜 논증하려는지 배경과 목적을 서술한다. 이후 연구 결과 도출에 필요한 범죄예방 환경설계와 동물행동학에 대한 이론 고찰을 토대로 개념을 확립한 뒤 행동, 사회, 감각, 생리, 환경 관점의 동물 행동학 관점을 도출한다. 그리고 5가지 동물 행동학 관점을 세분화한 15가지 반려견 행동 특성을 AHP 분석을 통한 전문가의 설문조사를 바탕으로 위계를 설정해 중요도를 파악하고, 반려견 행동 특성을 범죄예방 환경설계와 접목시켜 프레임워크를 구축한다. 이 과정에서 논증된 분석 결과를 바탕으로 반려견 행동 특성이 공공 안전을 도모할 수 있음을 확인한다. (결과) 1차 SWOT 분석, 2차 전문가 심층 인터뷰, 3차 전문가 AHP 분석을 통해 도출된 반려견 행동 특성의 위계는 상위 항목으로 워킹, 틸팅, 스니핑이 높게 측정됐고, 하위 항목은 스니징, 왈로윙, 디깅 순으로 확인됐다. 전반적으로 행동, 사회, 감각 관점의 하위 항목이 공공 안전과 상관관계가 있는 것을 알 수 있고, 상대적으로 생리, 환경관점은 결과가 미흡한 것으로 확인된다. (결론) 본 연구를 통해 반려견의 다양한 행동 특성들이 공공 공간에서 정온한 환경을 만드는 공공 안전과 귀결될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 논증된 결과를 바탕으로 추후 반려견의 잠재적 중요성은 민·관·학의 협력으로 놀이터, 지하철, 거리, 골목, 학교, 공원 등 일상 속 공간 영역에서 공공을 위한 다양한 연구를 통해 시대적 흐름에 부합하는 반려견과의 공생을 도모해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Companion Dogs play an important role in living with people in modern society and are recognized as members of the family from an interdisciplinary perspective, both psychologically and sociologically. Consequently, the number of companion dog-related businesses and registrations has increased annually—the presence and importance of companion dogs are expanding daily. As another social issue, people’s awareness of crime prevention environmental design, which creates a calm environment in the public sphere, has also been emphasized over the years owing to the manifestation of the desire to live in a safe environment according to Maslow’s five-level theory of needs. Accordingly, this study combines issues in line with the trend of the times to argue for a correlation between crime prevention environmental design and the behavioral characteristics of companion dogs in public safety, demonstrating the symbiosis between companion dogs and people. We would like to provide a justification for this. (Method) This study describes the background and purpose of demonstrating the correlation between public safety and companion dogs. After establishing a concept based on the theoretical considerations of crime prevention environment design and animal ethology necessary to derive research results, animal ethology perspectives from behavioral, social, sensory, physiological, and environmental perspectives were derived. Furthermore, 15 companion dog behavioral characteristics, subdivided into five animal behavioral perspectives, were hierarchized based on expert surveys through AHP analysis to identify their importance. A framework was built by combining companion dog behavioral characteristics with a crime prevention environment design. Based on the analysis results demonstrated in this process, we confirmed that companion dog behavioral characteristics can promote public safety. (Results) In the hierarchy of companion dog behavioral characteristics derived through the SWOT analysis, in-depth interviews with experts, and expert AHP analysis, walking, tilting, and sniffing were measured as the top items, while sniffing, wallowing, and digging were measured as the bottom items. Overall, the sub-categories of behavioral, social, and sensory perspectives are correlated with public safety, whereas the physiological and environmental perspectives show relatively insufficient results. (Conclusion) This study found that various behavioral characteristics of companion dogs can improve public safety by creating a calm environment in public spaces. Based on the results, the potential importance of companion dogs in the future will be determined through various studies of the public in everyday spaces such as playgrounds, subways, streets, alleys, schools, and parks through cooperation between the public and academia.
