『나가사키 미야게(長崎土産)』 연구 - 마루야마 유곽(丸山遊廓)과 유녀옥(遊女屋) 운영 (Focusing on『Nagasaki-Miyage』- Nagasaki-Maruyama Prostitution district and Yujo-Yamanagement)

초록

일본의 <유녀>와 <유곽>연구는 그 대상이 되는 유녀와 유곽을 구성하는 환경과 조직 등이 매우 복잡하게 얽혀 있는 연구대상이다. 본 연구에서 다루고 있는 유녀와 유곽에 대한 문제의식은 일본의 공창제도의 역사적 변모 과정을 파악하기 위한 시도이다. 여기서 유녀평판기 연구를 굳이 문제 삼는 이유는, 종래의 문학사적 연구 방법에서 유녀평판기가 삼류 잡서로 의식하여 경시되어 왔기 때문이다. 이에 유녀평판기 연구에 대한 문제 제기를 개괄하고 향후의 연구 방법에 대한 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 살펴본 『나가사키 미야게』는 구성과 형식의 면에서 문학적 수법이 다소 가미되어 있으며, 유녀평판기의 3가지 형식이 혼재되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 유녀평판기의 형식을 분류하는 것에 목적을 두지 않으므로, 텍스트의 내용을 면밀히 해석하는 것에 주안점을 두었다. 『나가사키 미야게』는 나가사키 부교소(奉行所)가 공인한 매춘 특별지역인 마루야마 유곽의 유녀와 유녀옥(遊女屋)에 대해 품평하고 있다. 본서가 제공하는 유곽을 구성하고 있는 유녀옥과 유녀에 대한 정보는 마루야마 유곽을 파악하는 1차적 사료로서의 가치가 충분하고, 이국인 전담 유녀에 대한 정보는 일본의 매춘제도와 에도 막부의 매춘정책이 지역사회의 요구 조건에 따라 어떻게 변모 발전해 왔는지에 대한 해명을 가능하게 한다.

영어초록

This research, as a part of Yujyo-Hyobanki study, tries to suggest that Yujyo-Hyobanki should be understood not only from the viewpoint of literature history, but it also needs to be reconsidered from the perspective of cultural history. The research also focuses both on the management of brothels and the men who visited the brothels, which are decisive in the study of brothels and prostitutes and yet have been frequently omitted from previous studies.
Especially, this research analyzes Yujyo-Hyobanki 『Nagasaki-Miyage』since it provides substantial/practical information about brothels and prostitutes more than any other genres. Also, it has various information and viewpoints of Yujyo-Ya and Yujo in Nagaki Maruyama which is the only open port in Japan. Because of that,『Nagasaki-Miyage』information about actual lives of Yujyo who served foreigners exclusively and also about institutional management system of the Yujo-Ya.
First of all, this study analyzed 『Nagasaki-Miyage』and scrutinized information related to Maruyama. Based on that, I have examined the management system of Maruyama and groups of men who used there. Moreover, throughout the study of Yujyo-Ya establishment and change in the number of Yujyo-Ya after then, I have reached a conclusion as below.
Meanwhile, from the analysis of Yujo-Ya composition change for 5 years from 1674 to 1679, changes were found from more than half of the whole Yujo-Ya. It seems that insufficient preparation for Yujo-Ya business succession and poor business results due to unskilled management were the main reasons. Also, through ‘Nayose’ where age and rank of prostitutes assigned to the Yujo-Ya provided by『Nagasaki-Miyage』 are recorded, I have confirmed the fact that Maruyama were mostly composed of inexpensive prostitutes who served foreigners exclusively. In that regards, the pride and envy of Maruyama's exotic mood and Yujo' fancy costumes, which frequently appears in the literature of that time, must have been less than 10% of entire Maruyama. Moreover, the fact that average age of Yujo in Maruyama was much younger than other areas means that Yujo-Ya or Machi-bugyo have accepted prostitutes indiscriminatively. I also assume that it has significant influence on Maruyama quality and scale/size since then.
