초록

이 연구는 ‘살처분’을 소재로 한 여섯 편의 소설을 대상으로 한다. 구제역 대유행과방역 매몰 조치가 전개된 2010년 말에서 2012년 사이를 배경으로, 살처분의 시장경제 논리를 기억과 계급의 상관관계와 함께 고찰한다. 쓰레기 처리 제도의 변화와 소비대중의 기억 문화, 이를 기록한 문학의 의미를 밝히려는 연작 연구의 연속임을 밝힌다.
직매립 패러다임은 쓰레기 처리 제도와 살처분의 공통점이다. 둘 다 시장경제의 원활한 작동과 순환 속도를 유지하는 데 이바지한다. 소비 대중조차 가속을 위한 수단의하나다. 최신 트렌드를 좇으며 소비에 몰두할 수 있는 대중의 심신은 어떤 사회적 장치에 연동된 결과일까? 살처분 매립지는 계급 표상의 여러 층위가 맞물린 집단적 기억/망각 장치다. 경제논리를 앞세워 살아 있는 가축을 지하에 파묻고 빨리 잊어버릴 수 있는 계급은 어디에 어떻게 위치할까? 그 일을 군사적 방역의 아수라장에서 실제 수행해야 하는 이들은 잊어버리고 사는 일이 쉬울까? 강영숙의 「문래에서」(2011), 김숨의 「구덩이」(2011), 이상권의 「젖」(2012)과 「삼겹살」(2013)은 살처분 현장의 참상을 고발한 소설이다. 살처분 시대의 트라우마를 극복할 주체의 구성과 기록 문학의 가능성을 함께 살펴보려 한다. 「문래에서」와 「삼겹살」은 나쁜 기억을 회피하지 않고 꿋꿋하게 대면하려는 주인공의 용기로 마무리된다.
자기 계급의 굴레이자, 망각할 수 없는 것의 체험으로부터 자신과 사랑하는 이들의 삶을 구하려는 출발점이 모색된다. 「젖」은 경제 논리와 국가정책에 따라 학살 가능한생명인 가축을 존중받아 마땅한 생명으로 성찰하는 소설이다.
살처분의 명분이 되는 경제 논리는 살처분 현장에서 멀리 떨어진 서울의 일상에서도 폭력적으로 작동한다. 윤대녕의 「구제역들」(2011)과 「검역」(2011)은, 자기 몸과마음의 소유를 시장질서에 빼앗긴 채, 전형화된 행동 유형(소비)과 정동에 길든 사람들의 비참을 관찰한 소설이다.
전염병과 온갖 재앙으로부터 가장 철저히 보호되는 것은 사람이기보다는 경제 체제다. 지금의 자본주의는 전염병보다 더 많은 생명을 죽인다. 이 위협으로부터 생명일반을 지킬 사회는 아직 도래하지 않았다. 재난에 익숙해지지 않는 문학은 계급과 자본의 논리를 넘어 생명이 존중되는 사회를 찾는 이들의 마중물이 될 수 있다.

This study targets six short novels based on ‘stamping out’.
Against the backdrop of the foot-and-mouth disease pandemic and quarantine burial measures between late 2010 and 2012, the market economy logic of the killing is examined along with the correlation between memory and class. It is revealed that it is a series of studies to reveal the changes in the garbage disposal system, the memory culture of the consumer public, and the meaning of literature that recorded it.
The direct reclamation paradigm has in common with the garbage disposal system and stamping out. Both contribute to the smooth operation and circulation of the market economy.
Even the consumer pub lic is one of the means to accelerate.
What social device is the result of the public’s mind and body that can immerse themselves in consumption while following the latest trends? The slaying landfill is a collective memory/forgetting device in which several layers of class representation are interlocked.
Where and how are classes where live livestock can be buried underground and quickly forgotten with economic logic? Would it be easy for those who actually have to perform the task in the midst of military quarantine to forget and live? Kang Young-sook’s In Munrae (2011), Kim Soom’s Pits (2011), Lee Sang-kwon’s Milk (2012) and Pork Belly (2013) are novels that accused the tragedy of the Stamping out site. The composition of the subject to overcome the trauma of the killing era and the possibility of recording literature will be examined together. In Munrae and Samgyeopsal end with the courage of the protagonist to face each other firmly without avoiding bad memories. A starting point is sought to save the lives of oneself and loved ones from the experience of being a flexor of one’s own class and the unforgettable. Milk is a novel that reflects on livestock, a life that can be slaughtered according to economic logic and national policy, as a life that deserves respect.
The economic logic, which is the justification for killing, works violently even in the daily lives of Seoul, far from the killing site. Yoon Dae-nyeong’s Foot-and-mouth Disease (2011) and Quarantine (2011) are novels that observe the typical behavioral types (consumption) and the participation of people who have grown up in Jeongdong, losing their body and mind possession to market order.
It is the economic system rather than the people that is most thoroughly protected from infectious diseases and all kinds of disasters. Capitalism today kills more lives than infectious diseases. A society that will protect the general life from this threat has yet to arrive. Literature that does not get used to disasters can be a priming water for those who seek a society where life is respected beyond the logic of class and capital.
