제주도 전통 수의 중 검은 호상에 대한 실증적 고찰 (An Empirical Study of Black Hosang among Traditional Jeju Island Shrouds)

초록

The motivation of this study is to preserve and increase awareness that the principle and production method of the traditional shroud of Jeju Island has a characteristic form different from that of other regions. The results of reviews of the black hosang, a cloth covering the face of the body, among the traditional shroud of Jeju Island are as follows. First, according to literature and excavation reports on male and female head-coverings among the Joseon Dynasty's shrouds, there are various head-coverings such as myeogmog, small hat, manggeon, jokduri, bokgeon, yeomo, and neoul, were used as mounds in other areas. However, it can be seen that only black hosang has been used in Jeju since ancient times. Second, as a result of examining the name of the black hosang through interviews with producers who made black hosang, which has been used since ancient times in Jeju Island, the face shield called myeogmog has been called black hosang since ancient times. Third, as a result of examining the characteristics of the composition by dividing the collection artifacts by type and examining the manufacturing method, it can be divided into three types. The first type was classified as a round, three-dimensional shape of the top of the head, the second as a whole as a flat shape, and the third as a whole as a flat shape with a slight difference in front and back lengths. This study aimed to preserve the originality of Jeju's traditional shroud and preserve the production technology of black hosang, a characteristic shroud culture distinguished from other regions, and preserve the symbolic meaning as much as possible.
