「漢韓大辭典」의 構件과 자형 정비 (On Aligning Component Parts and Chinese Character Fonts in the Great Chinese-Korean Dictionary)

초록

본고는 「통합디지털 漢韓大辭典」의 웹 서비스 사업의 일환인 웹 폰트 정비·개발과 관련해, 기존 인쇄용서체를 웹 폰트로 전환하는 과정에서 발견된 자형상의 오류나 미비점을 검토하고 이를 수정·보완하려는 취지에서 마련되었다.
1차적으로 「漢韓大辭典」 표제 한자 전체를 일일이 검토한 이후, 2차적으로 IRG(국제한자특별위원회)에서정리한 <구건분석표>를 참조하여 1차 과정에서 누락된 구건을 추가적으로 반영하는 과정을 거쳐, 최종 224개의 구건을 추출하였다. 추출된 구건별로 글꼴을 확정하는 단계에서는, 「康熙字典」을 비롯한 전통 韻書와 字書,현재 통용되고 있는 韓·中·日 三國의 주요 사전 및 한국의 여러 기간 사전을 두루 참조함으로써 傳統性과普遍性의 양대 축을 기준으로 종합적으로 판단하고자 하였다.
그중 전통성과 보편성이 일치하는 경우가 가장 많으며 글꼴 결정도 비교적 쉽다. 하지만 양자가 불일치하거나, 혹은 전통성이나 보편성이라 부를 만한 대표자형이 존재하지 않을 때는 다양한 관점에서 접근할 필요가 있다. 본고에서는 구건 결정의 양상을, 1) 전통성과 보편성이 일치하는 경우, 2) 전통성과 보편성이 불일치하는경우, 3) 보편성 對 여러 글꼴의 대립, 4) 시대 구분 없이 둘 이상 글꼴의 대립, 5) 여러 글꼴의 난립 등으로나누어 살펴보았고, 글꼴 확정 과정에서는 자원의 중시, 부수체계의 일관성 확립, 유사 구건과의 형평성 고려,현대인의 필사습관, 필획의 정확성 등 다양한 관점에서 문제 해결을 시도하였다.
이러한 논의는, 좁게는 추후 웹 기반에서 운용되어질 「통합디지털 漢韓大辭典」의 자형표준화를 통해 광범위한 사용자들에게 한자 학습과 검자상의 편의를 제공할 뿐 아니라, 넓게는 국가 차원의 標準 漢字 제정 논의에 하나의 시안이 될 수도 있으리라 본다. 한국의 표준 한자폰트가 제정된다면 현재 한문 교과서를 비롯한 한자 학습교재, 각종 서적과 신문, 출판물, 컴퓨터 폰트 등에 존재하는 혼란스러운 서체 난립 현상을 해결하는데 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This article, regarding modification and development of web-font which is a part of web service project for “The Unified Digital Great Chinese-Korean Dictionary”, is prepared to check out errors and defects of fonts occurring in the process in which print-fonts are transformed into web-fonts and to modify and compensate them.
In first stage, every entry character in the Great Chinese-Korean Dictionary is examined one by one. Then in second stage, referring “Component Parts Analysis Chart” arranged by IRG (Ideographic Rapporteur Group), component parts omitted in the first stage are reflected. For the result, the final 224 component parts are extracted. In the next stage in which a font for each extracted component part is determined, traditional dictionaries for phonetics and for characters such as Kangxizidian, currently circulated major dictionaries of Korea, China, and Japan, as well as some key dictionaries in Korea are consulted, so that the double axes of traditionality and universality are taken as the fundamental for synthetic judgement.
Among them, the cases in which traditionality and universality are indifferent are most, and in such cases font determinations are relatively easy. However, in the cases that the two are unidentical or that neither traditionally nor universally representative font exists, various approaches are required. This paper sorts component parts determinations into five cases: 1)accordance between traditionality and universality, 2) discordance between traditionality and universality, 3) conflict between universality and other fonts, 4) conflict between two fonts or more regardless of temporal distinction, and 5) jumble of plural fonts. In font determination process, various criteria such as origin of a character, coherence of radical system, equity with similar component parts, contemporary people’s hand-writing habits, and stroke accuracy were applied to resolve problems.
Such discussions not only from narrow perspective may allow various users of The Unified Digital Great Chinese-Korean Dictionary to have convenience for learning and searching Chinese characters by font standardization, but also from wide perspective may provide a proposal to establish a standardized Chinese character fonts in national level. If Korea’s standardized Chinese character fonts are established, it could help to resolve confusing jumble of Chinese character fonts in various chinese character learning books including sino-korean textbooks, various printed materials including books and newspapers, and computer fonts.
