초록

1929년 11월 광주학생운동이 일어나자 일제측은 이를 단순한 학생투쟁이 아닌 사회주의계열의 지도를 받아 조직된 비밀결사가 개입한 정치적·사상적 사건으로 파악했다. 그리고 관련자들을 검거한 학생들을 ‘학생시위사건’·‘소녀회사건’·‘독서회사건’·‘성진회사건’으로 구분하여 차례대로 조사와공판을 진행했으며, 학생시위사건보다는 다른 3개 사건을 중시했다. 따라서소녀회사건은 이후 독서회사건·성진회사건 공판의 ‘전초전’ 성격을 띠고 있었다.
여자중등학교의 비밀결사로는 전국적으로도 빨리 결성된 광주여고보 독서회는 1928년 11월 초순경 장매성 등 2학년 6명으로 결성되었으며, 이듬해인 1929년 5월 5명이 추가로 입회했다. 목적은 사회과학연구였으며 매월1회 월례회를 개최했고, 광주고보 등의 독서회와도 교류하고 있었다.
1929년 11월 광주학생운동이 일어나자 광주여고보생들은 11월 3일 조· 일 학생간 충돌과 이후 가두시위에 참여하여 조선인 남학생들을 치료하고지원했는데, 독서회원들이 이를 주도했다. 그리고 12일의 연합 가두시위에는 참여하지 못했지만 교내에서 독립가를 부르고 만세를 외치면서 호응했고, 14일에도 교내에서 항쟁을 계속했다.
1930년 1월 광주여고보생들은 수감된 학생들의 석방을 요구하며 백지동맹에 나섰는데 이 역시 독서회원들이 주도했다고 여겨진다. 1월 15일 경찰은광주여고보생 12~13명을 검거했고, 이들 중 3명은 방면되었다. 그리고 장매성 등 11명이 예심에 회부되었다.
1930년 7월 1일 예심이 종료되고 9월 공판이 시작되었는데, 이에 앞서광주의 조선인 변호사들은 학부형들의 희망과는 달리 광주의 변호사들은‘개별유료변호’로 사건을 맞아 물의를 빚기도 했다. 10월 공판에서 장재성은징역 2년을 선고받고 복역했고, 다른 회원들은 징역 1년에 집행유예 5년을선고받았다.

As a secret association of girls' secondary schools, the Gwangju Girls' High School Reading Association, which was formed quickly nationwide, was formed by six second graders, including Jang Maesung, around early November 1928, and five more people attended the following year, May 1929. The purpose was social science research, and a monthly meeting was held once a month, and he was also interacting with reading clubs such as Gwangju Ilbo.

In January 1930, Gwangju Girls' High School students launched a blank alliance demanding the release of imprisoned students, which is also believed to have been led by reading members. On the 15th, the police arrested 12 to 13 Gwangju Girls' High School students, and three of them were released. And 11 people, including Jang Mae-seong, were referred to the preliminary trial.
On July 1, 1930, the preliminary trial ended and the trial began in September, and prior to this, Korean lawyers in Gwangju raised controversy over the case as "individual paid defense," contrary to parents' In the October trial, Jang Jae-sung was sentenced to two years in prison and served, while other members were sentenced to one year in prison and five years probation.
