자전거 사용자를 위한 기능성컨버터블 의류 디자인 (The Design of a Convertible Garment for Bicycle Users)

초록

연구배경 최근 자전거 이용자의 급속한 증가로 다양한 자전거 의류의 필요성이 높아가고 있으나 시장 전체의 규모에 비해 국내 기업에서 독자적으로 한국인의 특성에 적합한 제품을 개발하는 경우는 찾기 힘들고, 대부분 해외 브랜드의 의류를 기초로 피팅을 변형하는 정도에 머물고 있다. 본 연구는 자전거 이용자의 실제적 니즈를 반영한 양산형 자전거 의류 개발에 관한 것으로, 의류 개발을 단순히 패션디자인의 관점에서 보기 보다는 제품·패션디자인의 융합기술의 측면에서 통합적으로 접근하였다.
연구방법 자전거운동 전체를 통합적 경험 측면에서 접근하고자 본 연구에는 자전거 의류 전문기업, 디자인 전문기업, 대학 디자인연구소 및 섬유산업기관이 참여하였으며 기획 단계부터 샘플제작단계에 이르기까지 전 과정에 걸쳐 유기적으로 협력하여 진행하였다. 또한 제품개발방향 설정을 위해 현장관찰, 표적집단면접, 설문조사 및 문헌연구를 수행하였다. 이를 기초로 하여 자전거 의류를 구성하는 기능별 패턴요소 도출을 시작으로 총 2회의 패턴개발, 샘플제작, 피팅 테스트 및 패턴 교정을 거쳐서 최종 디자인이 완성되었다.
연구결과 연구 결과로 개발된 2종의 컨버터블 의류는 자전거 사용자가 참여한 사용성 평가와 공인시험기관에서의 검사를 통하여 치수적합성, 원단의 기능성 및 사용자가 운동 환경에적절히 대응할 수 있는 컨버터블 개념에 대해서 우수하게 평가되었다. 기존 원단의 단점을 보완하여 기능적 효율성을 높인 원단을 개발하여 적용하였으며 한국인의 체형에 최적화된 패턴을 개발하였다. 또한 한 벌로 다양한 환경에 대응할 수 있는 컨버터블 개념을 바탕으로 디자인하였다. 이로 인해 사용자가 소매와 하의 하단을 탈·부착할 수 있어서 기능적 요인을 적절하게 변화시킬 수 있게 되었다. 이 새로운 개념은 자전거로 출·퇴근하는 사람뿐만 아니라일반적인 야외 활동 시에도 착용이 가능한 의류로 기능할 수 있게 한다.
결론 본 연구 결과는 높은 가격과 부담스럽게 몸에 달라붙어 착용을 꺼리는 사용자들의 니즈에 대한 합리적 대안이 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 또한 관련 시장의 급속한 확장 추세를 볼 때,스포츠웨어의 디자인 개발을 위한 교육 분야에서도 기존의 패션 및 제품 디자인 교육과정을적극적으로 융합해야 할 필요성을 보여준다.

영어초록

Background Recently, the rapid growth of the population of bike users has led to thegrowing need for functional clothes, and the development of bike wear has becomemore active. However, it is not easy to find bike wear that is appropriate for physicalattributes of Koreans and their environment. The majority part of the bike garmentsdistributed in the domestic market is the result of slight modifications made to thedesigns of imported famous brand clothing. This paper shows the development of a set offunctional bike wear which best meets the needs of bike users. Especially, this study doesnot take the approach in the point of view of the field of fashion design, but deals withthe development of the wear as a convergent design technology of product design andfashion design.
Methods A cooperative system consisting of a company specializing in bike wear, adesign firm, a university research laboratory, and a textile industry association was builtfor an integrated approach. The study shows a successful, integrated research case whereresearch participants have a close relationship from the planning and design phases up tothe prototyping phase. For the consumer request investigation, field observation, focusgroup interview, questionnaire survey, and literature review were carried out. Accordingto the design direction stemming from the analysis of the consumer needs, two finaldesigns of convertible bike wear were completed after defining the pattern as functionsand two times of pattern design, prototyping, fitting test and refining the patterns.
Results The results show that the two sets of convertible bike wear developed in thisstudy were praised for their size suitability, functional performance of the fabric, andthe ability of the convertible garment for coping with diverse exercise environment inboth the usability test and an inspection performed by an authorized testing institution.
The newly developed 3-layered fabric enhancing functional efficiency and remedyingthe existent fabric’s shortcomings was adopted, and patterns and composition methodsapplying the concept of a convertible garment were designed for corresponding withdiverse exercise environments with a suit of clothes. The idea of convertible wear leadsbike users to change functional features, such as the warmth-retaining property andlevel of sweat emission, by detaching or attaching sleeves and trouser legs. Thanks tothis idea, newly developed convertible wear could be used by not only bicycle riders forcommuting but also the general public for engaging in outdoor activities.
Conclusion The newly designed convertible wear can be a reasonable alternative bymeeting the customers’ needs of avoiding the burden of costliness and the feeling ofembarrassment about clothing clinging to their bodies. In addition, it emphasizes thenecessity of convergence and integrated education between fashion design and productdesign for designing sportswear.
