康承翰의 아동 서사문학 연구-발굴 장편 『힌구름 피는 언덕』과 『새벽하눌』을 중심으로- (Research on Children’s Epic Literature of Kang, Seung-han -Around the lengthy pieces of『A Hill of White Clouds』and 『The Sky at the Dawn』-)

초록

본고는 강승한의 해방 전 아동 서사문학을 전반적으로 살폈다. 특히 그의 장편 서사문학인 「힌구름이 피는 언덕」과 「새벽하눌」을 비중있게 다루고자 하였다.
1930년대는 우리나라 아동문학이 서사의 장편화를 욕망하며 다양한 실험과 모색의 과정을 거치며 비로소 첫 결실을 맺는 소중한 시기이다. 이러한 시기에 발표한 강승한의 「새벽하눌」은 비교적 그 선두에 서 있는 작품이다. 그의 장편 소년소녀소설 「새벽하눌」은 해방 전 아동 잡지에 최장 기간 발표된 최고 길이의 작품으로, 『아이생활』에 인기리에 연재되어 이후 우리나라 장편 아동문학이 활발하게 전개될 수 있도록 기폭제 역할을 담당하였다.
본고는 강승한의 아동 서사문학을 다룸에 있어 단편 서사문학의 대표작으로 유년문학 「수영이의 편지」·「개고리 사냥」, 소년소설 「사진」·「진실한 동무」를 거론하였다. 그의 유년문학에 대해서는 ‘생태의 발견과 체험’으로, 소년소설에 대해서는 ‘빈궁의 조건과 휴먼의 초계급성’으로 작품 세계를 파악하였다.
강승한이 남긴 장편 서사문학 「힌구름 피는 언덕」과 「새벽하눌」 2편에 대해서는 각각 ‘근대와 전근대의 공존과 갈등’, ‘근대 공간 서울에 대한 열망과 좌절’로 해석하였다. 두 작품은 전근대에서 근대로 이행되는 시기의 조선 사회 풍습과 개인의 욕망, 사회상의 궁핍한 이면들이 잘 표출되고 있으며, 모험적 추리 서사를 활용하여 1930년대 사회상을 사실적으로 그려내고 있다.
본고는 휴머니즘을 바탕에 깔면서 하층민의 궁핍한 삶의 애환과 고통을 사실주의 기법으로 그려낸 장편 서사문학의 한 성과로 강승한의 「새벽하눌」을 평가하고자 했다.

영어초록

This paper has generally looked at the epic literature - childhood stories, boy novels and lengthy boy and girl’s novels - of Kang Seung-han. Especially, it was aimed to focus on his lengthy epic literature in “A Hill of White Clouds” and “The Sky at the Dawn”.
The 1930’s is a valuable period where the Korean children’s literature finally makes its first fruit through various experiments and research processes in its desire to lengthen its epics. “The Sky at the Dawn” of Kang Seung-han is a work that is relatively at the front in that era. His lengthy boy and girl’s novels is the “longest work published serially for the longest period” on a children’s magazine before the independence, which had been serially published on “Children’s Life” with popularity. As such, it played a role of a kind of catalyst which promoted Korean lengthy children’s literature to actively spread out.
This paper references childhood literature in “A Letter from Soo-young” and “A Dog-chain Hunt” as well as in the boy novels of “Photography” and “A True Friend” as representatives of short epic literature in handling the children’s epic literature of Kang Seung-han. For his childhood literature, “The Discovery and Experience of Ecology System” was studied, while “The Conditions of Destitution and the Super Class Nature of Human” was studied to grasp his world of literature.
For the two lengthy epic literature works of “A hill of white clouds” and “The Sky at the Dawn”, these were interpreted as ‘the co-existence and the conflict between the modern era and the pre-modern era’ and ‘the desire and the discouragement in the modern space of Seoul’, respectively. The two works: well-express the social customs, individual desires and the poor aspects of the society in Joseon at the time, where the transfer from the pre-modern era to the modern era was being carried out; and closely draw the social image of the 1930’s with the adventurous detective narratives.
This paper aimed to evaluate “The Sky at the Dawn” of Kang Seung-han as an achievement in the lengthy epic literature that shaped the joys and the sorrows of the poor lives of the people of the lower classes using realistic techniques with humanism in the background.
