『대한자강회월보』의 ‘심(心)’ 개념과 감성론 연구 (The Concept of ‘Sim(心)’ and Sensibility Theory in the monthly report of Daehanjaganghoe)

초록

이 논문에서는 『대한자강회월보』에서 빈번하게 출현하고 있는 ‘심(心)’⋅‘감(感)’⋅ ‘성(性)’⋅‘정(情)’ 개념의 용례와 그 의미망을 살펴보고자 하였다. 위 개념들이 유학적 세계 이해와 그 설명 방식의 자장 안에 놓여 있었다는 것을 전제로, ‘자강(自强)’이라는 목표를 달성하기 위해 ‘심(心)’ 개념이 동원되었다는 점을 확인하였다. ‘심담’, ‘심지’, ‘심의’와 같은 ‘심(心)’ 관련 어휘들의 용례를 분석하고, ‘자강’에대한 요청이 ‘심(心)’의 ‘역량’에 대한 확신을 기반으로 작동하고 있었음을 밝혔다. 이어서 ‘감념’, ‘감동’, ‘정’, ‘성정’ ‘감정’, ‘정육’ 등의 용례를 살펴보고, ‘심미(審 美)의 감정’ 교육은 ‘정육’ 및 ‘미육’의 성격을 지니고 있었지만, ‘공(公)적인 것’, ‘국가’와의 연관으로부터 자유로울 수 없었다는 점을 밝혔다. ‘감성교육’-‘국가론’의연관을 통해 1906년∼1907년 사이의 ‘감성(感性)’론의 일면을 확인할 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze ‘patriotism’, which is frequently appearing in the monthly report of Daehanjaganghoe, and examine how patriotism and aesthetic emotion education are related with each other.
In this case, it should be noted that the discussion on patriotism is presented in the context of the ‘mind theory’, which is closely related to the core concepts of Confucianism such as ‘mind(心)’, ‘nature(性)’ and ‘emotion(情).’ Although the emphasis on ‘patriotism’ had the nature of making a modern ‘nation’, it showed the characteristics of discourse based on Confucianism in its way of explanation and rhetorical figures. On the other hand, in cases where past studies on ‘mind and nature(心性)’ were compared with new approaches in the process of academic translation, the effects of enlightenment education were examined separately for items, ‘knowledge (智)⋅emotion(情)⋅will(意)’ or the subjects that correspond to individual items were classified when they were introduced. In particular, methods of grafting emotion education upon the context of the theory of state referring to ‘national folk song(國民歌)’ and ‘natural emotion of the nation’ were appearing. Although education on ‘aesthetic emotions’ has the nature of ‘emotion education’ and ‘beauty education’, it could not be free from the relation with ‘public things’, ‘society’, ‘history’, and ‘state.’ It could be identified that while ‘patriotism’ was required through the concepts of ‘mind(心)’, ‘nature(性)’ and ‘emotion(情)’, ‘aesthetic emotion’ education had the nature of the ‘state theory’ in terms of education. In this study, by examining the demand for ‘patriotism’ appearing in the monthly report of Daehanjaganghoe in terms of the ‘mind theory(心論)’ and the relationship between ‘aesthetic emotion’ education and the ‘state theory’, a part of the ‘sensibility(感性)’ theory between 1906 and 1907 could be reviewed.
