東巴文化의 生命意識을 반영한 <印象麗江> ( Reflecting Dongba Culture’s Idea of Life)

초록

중국의 실경공연 <인상리장>에서 보여주었던 대 자연에 대한 경외심은 중국 운남성 나시족 자치현인 리장을 배경으로 제작된 작품이다. 이 작품의 근간을 이루는 것은 바로 동파문화이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 <인상리장>에 내재된 동파문화의 생명의식을 논의 하였다. 본 연구방법은 질적 연구로 문헌분석을 통해 나시족 동파문화, 즉 동파교에서 지향하는 생명의식에 대해 언급하고 이를 바탕으로 <인상리장>의 실연영상을 분석하여 <인상리장>에 반영된 동파문화의 생명의식을 논의하였다. 생명에 대한 의식은 동파문화의 핵심적 사유이다. 나시족의 동파경전에는 이러한 생명의식에 대한 원시사유가 존재한다. 따라서 생명이란 무엇인가에 대한 물음은 모든 만물에는 생명이 존재하고 있으며 이 생명이 유기적으로 연결될 때 비로소 존재한다는 동파교의 타자 수용적 생명의식에서 그 해답을 찾을 수 있다. 즉 동파경전에 전하는 생명의식은 우주의 모든 만물은 그 규율에 따라 순환을 통해 상생(相生)한다는 것이다. 이러한 동파문화의 생명의식은 고스란히 <인상리장>에서 드러났다. <인상리장>의 작품 분석에 따르면 <인상리장>의 모든 장면은 동파문화를 주제로 설정하고 있고 각 장은 동파문화의 생명의식을 기반으로 한 공동체적 집단 가무를 통해 표현되었음을 알 수 있었다. <인상리장>에서는 마방문화, 음주문화, 오락문화, 생사관, 제천의식과 기복의식 등을 동파문화의 특성인 공동체적 집단가무로 구체화하였다. 집체에 의해 끊임없이 확인하게 하는 집단의 정체성과 그 지속력은 새로운 생명의 근원이 된다. 이 집체적 공동가무는 너와 나의 경계가 허물어지고 우리라는 공동체적 정체성을 확인하여 민족적 생명력을 유지하게 된다. <인상리장>은 동파문화가 갖는 수용적 생명의식을 통해 현대인들에게 대자연이라는 우주적 세계관 안에 타자(他者)를 수용하는 수용적 생명의식을 재현하여 치유를 통한 무궁한 생명을 제공하고 있다고 하겠다.

영어초록

The lives of human beings are at stake due to contemporary people’s selfishness and lack of respect for nature. In retrospect, the nuclear disaster occurred in Japan caused by the devastating earthquake and tsunami could be explained as a disaster resulted from an unwise belief in science. The pure idea of life belonging to arts alerts such simple thought because arts have the value of life leading us to a brighter and more hopeful future. Impression Lijiang is an outdoor folk musical, which was created in Lijiang, the self-governing city of Nashi in Yunna, China, demonstrates the great respect for the Mother Nature. Dongba Culture lies at the heart of this performance. In this study, I analyzed Dongba Culture’s idea of life inherent in Impression Lijiang. The idea of life is the essential part of the Dongba Culture. Dongba Scriptures created by Nashi contain the primitive thinking of such awareness of life. Therefore, the answer to the question about what life is can be found from the awareness of life in Dongba religion that believes that all creation has life and they can exists only when they are organically interrelated. Dongba religion’s understanding of life is based on reality and wishes for eternal life through richness and fecundity. In other words the awareness of life conveyed by Dongba Scriptures explains that all beings in the universe coexist through the circulation based on that rules and is explicitly depicted in Impression Lijiang. Adopting a qualitative research approach, this study aims at explaining the awareness of life presented by the Dongba Culture of Nashi, i.e. Dongba religion through analyzing literature materials and revealing it reflected on Impression Lijiang through analyzing the visual records of the performance. Furthermore, for the sake of more effective research, I visited Lijiang to watch Impression Lijiang and experienced in person the greatness of nature produced by the work in summer of 2012. According to analyses on the work, the Dongba Culture constitutes the main subject of its entire scenes. With visual depiction of their unique culture such as horseback riding, drinking, entertainment, view of living and death, harvest ceremony and rituals for wishing for luck, each act expresses its awareness of life through communal group dances and songs. The communal identity and its persistent vitality, which are continuously proved through group performance, become the source of new life. These collective group dances dismantle the boundaries dividing you and me and affirm our communal identity, supporting the nation’s life force. In other words Impression Lijiang expresses Dongba Culture’s receptive awareness of life. The receptive life awareness that recognizes the existence of other beings offers eternal life to Nashi through healing. Impression Lijiang allows us to realize the true state of things through the scenery of nature. The true state of things depicted in the musical represents the essential part of the universe. The scenes of the people who song and dance at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain represent the true coexistence with nature and the aesthetics of healing life.
