초록

본고에서는 영산강유역 원저계통의 단경호를 대상으로 형식분류를 실시하고 변천과정과 그 배경을 살펴보았다. 단경호는 삼국시대 전반에 걸친 다양한 유구에서 출토되고 있어 형식학적으로 연속적인 변화상을 보인다. 형식분류는 명목형 속성(저부와 구연부 형태)을 기준으로 형식을 분류하고 연속형 속성(구형도와 문양구성)에 따라 군집을 설정하였다. 그리고 복수의 단경호가 출토된 유구에서 형식별 공반관계, 변천과정이 비교적 뚜렷한 옹관묘 출토 단경호의 변천양상을 통해 형식분류의 타당성과 변천과정을 확인하였다.
영산강유역의 단경호는 새로운 양식의 등장과 소멸을 기준으로 크게 4개의 분기로 구분할 수 있다. 1기는 3세기 전ㆍ중반경~4세기 중ㆍ후엽으로, 원저(Ⅰ형)나 편평 말각평저(Ⅱ형)인 단경호가 주거지와 제형분구에서 확인된다. 2기는 4세기 중ㆍ후엽~5세기 중엽으로 원저(Ⅰ형)나 편평 말각평저(Ⅱ형)에 구순부 홈이 돌아가는 D형의 단경호가 나타난다. 이러한 단경호는 대형화된 제형분구에서 새로운 기종의 토기들과 공반되고 있다. 3기는 5세기 중엽~6세기 중엽으로 다양한 형식의 단경호가 확인되고 있는데, 이 시기는 영산강유역에서 분구의 형태나 유물 양식이 다양화되는 때이기도 한다. 4기는 6세기 중엽 이후로 영산강유역에서 백제계통의 석실묘와 유물이 일반화되는 시기이다. 오목 말각평저(Ⅲ형)의 단경호가 영산강 중ㆍ하류지역의 일부 옹관묘와 석실묘에서 한정적으로 확인된다. 이러한 단경호의 형식변천은 당시 정치ㆍ사회ㆍ문화적인 요인과 관련되는 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

This paper aims to categorize the types of jars with a short neck excavated in the Yeongsan River basin, to examine the changing process and backgrounds. In this study, type categorization was attempted including both the buried and life sites to investigate jars with a short neck excavated in the Youngsan river basin.
The jars with a short neck don't change in separate aspects but according to continuities. The investigator combined the nominal and continuous attributes to categorize them in groups rather than individually. The first criterion of type categorization was the shape of the bottom and mouth, which were the nominal attributes. The second criterion of degree of sphericalness, which was a continuous attribute, was applied to 12 types of three shapes of the bottom and four shapes of the mouth. As a result, four groups were identified. To test the validity of those group categorizations, I examined how two or more types were excavated together in a single site. Furthermore, I examined jar coffins where the most diverse types of jars with a short neck.
The changes to jars with a short neck in the Yeongsan River basin took place in four phases; the 1st one ranges from the 3rd century to the middle 4th century with lots of jars with a short neck excavated in life sites and square or trapezoid mounds. The 2nd phase covers from the middle 4th century to the middle 5th century. In this phase, the size of the trapezoid mounds started to grow, the pottery of Gaya and new potterys started to appear including wide-mouthed jars with a hole. And the 3rd phase ranges from the middle 5th century to the middle 6th century. This phase appears various types of jars with a short neck, mounds, and pottery style. The 4th phase Baekje style is generalized happened after 6th century. Changing background to each phase process with an element of politics, society, and culture in those days.
