초록

이 논문은 『금강경』(鳩摩羅什 譯)에 나타난 내용을 토대로 어떻게 신행 체계가 구성되어 있고, 어떤 방식으로 전개되는가를 규명하려는 목적에서 작성되었다. 『금강경』이 선종(禪宗)의 소의경전이요, 우리나라 조계종의 종도들이 의지하는 경전임에도불구하고, 선사상이나 수행 · 신행과 관련된 논문이 많지 않다. 이에 본고는 『금강경』 에 나타난 신행 체계를 중심으로 논문이 작성되었다. 『금강경』의 경명(經名)인 ‘금강(⾦剛)’이란 무상(無上)을 의미한다. 금강(Diamond)이 어떤 금속성의 물건일지라도자를 수 있고, 파괴할 수 있는 능력을 갖고 있듯이 반야(般若 = ⾦剛)는 모든 집착을끊고 피안(彼岸)에 이르는 강한 힘을 갖고 있음을 의미한다. 논문에서 『금강경』의 신행체계는 크게 네 가지로 나뉜다. 첫 번째로 보살은 번뇌심 ➜ 보리심으로 전환하는데, 먼저 발심이 중요하다. 이렇게 발심해서 해탈을 추구하는데 있어 보살은 중생을제도했다거나 보시했다는 집착이 없는 무주상(無住相) · 무주심(無住⼼)이 수반되어야한다. 한편 발심(發⼼)이 매우 중요한데, 발심하는데 주사심(住四⼼)을 구족해야 한다. 두 번째로 대승의 보살은 반드시 공(空)과 무아(無我)를 체득해야 한다. 세 번째로보살의 수행덕목이 지복겸수(智福兼修)인데, 자리적(⾃利的) 수행은 말할 것도 없고, 타인이 무여열반에 들도록 보살행을 실천해야 한다. 이 보살행의 수행 · 신행 덕목이육도와 오종수행인데, 이를 실천하여 무위복(無爲福)을 추구해야 한다. 네 번째로 보살은 정토를 장엄하는데, 마음을 청정하게 하는 것이 불국토를 건설하는 것[唯⼼淨⼟]이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how faith and practice, as it ap- pears in the Diamond Sutra, has been organized and structured. The Diamond Sutra is a short scripture of the Zen sect of Buddhism (including the Jogye order).
There have not been many theses written which includes Zen thought and the structure of faith and practice in the Diamond Sutra. As such, this manuscript is centered on that topic. “Diamond,” as the word has been used with respect to the Diamond sutra, means “supreme.” Just as a diamond is harder than all other materials and is thus capable of cutting through them, the prajna or wisdom of the sutra is similarly powerful, and able to cut through obsessions and reach nirvana. In this thesis, the structure of faith and practice in the Diamond Sutra is divided into four main parts.
The first part concerns the bodhisattva as he converts the feeling of anguish into aspiration for Buddhahood. Here, sincere intention to attain spiritual awak- ening is important. In this way, with the intention to reach nirvana, the bodhi sattva does not obsess over the liberating of others nor of giving alms. He em- bodies the practices related to non-abiding images and non-abiding mind.
Furthermore, the intention to attain spiritual awakening is necessary and thus one must abide by the four boundless states of mind. Secondly, the bodhisattva must, through experience, learn of emptiness and no-self. Thirdly, the moral practices of the bodhisattva contains both awareness and merit. There is no mention of practice for the development of self, the bodhisattva practices for the benefit of all others so they may reach enlightenment. Of these bodhisattva practices, including the structure of faith, are the 6 paramitas and the five types of practices. Once these have been fulfilled the mueuibok (無爲福) should be pursued. Fourth, the bodhisattva makes the Pure Land majestic. The mind being made clear is the establishment of the Buddha-lands or the mind-only Pure Land.
