근대 불교잡지 소재 강담(講談)문학의 의의 (The significance of the storytelling literature in Buddhist magazine at modern times)

초록

이 글은 근대 불교잡지 소재 강담문학의 구조와 의미를 분석하고, 근대전환기 문학사 내지 불교계몽운동과 관련하여 그 의의를 논한 것이다. 분석 대상은 양건식의 <속황량>과 <반호이>이다.
강담문학은 전래의 원작을 내용부로 하여 도입부 - 내용부 - 종결부라는 3단구조로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 3단 구조를 통해 작가가 원작의 이야기를 소재로 자기 방식대로 서술한다는 점이 강담문학의 특징이다. 3단구조는 원작에 대한 작가의 강력한 개입에 따른 것이다. 또한 강담문학은 설화체 화법의 도입과 악인 형상의 재창조를 통하여 원작이나 지배적인 언술 방식을 패러디함으로써 현실을 비판한다.
이러한 강담문학은 근대소설의 미숙성 내지 구연문화의 활성화, 계몽문학의 수요와 관련하여 당대 사회 현실에 대한 문제의식을 드러냈다는 점에서, 근대전환기 서사문학으로서 의의가 있다. 또한 강담문학은 불교계몽운동의 일환으로 독자 대중에게 불교 근대화와 관련된 문제를 설득하고 감화시키는데 적절한 양식으로서 의의가 있다.

영어초록

I discussed the significance of storytelling literatures in Buddhist magazine at modern times in light of the history of literature at the transition periods to modern times and Buddhist enlightenment movement in this essay. For this I analyzed the structure and the meaning of storytelling literatures centering around the writings of Yang, Geon - sik, <Sokhwangliang(續黃粱)> and <Banhoi(反乎爾)>.
The storytelling literatures are structuralized of three - stage structure that is comprised of the introduction, the content which is composed of the story of traditional original works but markedly different from them in relation to the narrative style, and the end. It is characteristic of the storytelling literatures that the author narrates the story of the original in his or her own way by this three- stage structure. Therefore this structure is derived from the active meddle of the author in the original, and the storytelling literatures criticize the real world by parodying the original and predominant statements through the application of narrative speech and the recreation of bad character.
This storytelling literatures are meaningful as the narrative literature at the transition periods to modern times that had a critical mind to the lifestyle of the time in light of the immaturity of modern literature, the vitalization of the orally narrate culture, and the requirement to literature of enlightenment, and that literatures are meaningful as the apposite style to persuade and infect to Buddhist revivalism as the part of Buddhist enlightenment movement.
