청주 성안길에 있어서 개방감과 흥미로움의 평가 (Evaluation on the Sense of Openness and Interest in Seong-An Gil, Cheongju)

초록

이 연구는 보행자 전용도로인 상업가로가 갖추어야 할 조건으로 상업건축물의 밀집에서 발생할 수 있는 개방감의 결여와 이용자들을 계속적으로 끌어들이기 위한 가로공간의 매력성에 초점을 두어, 보행자전용도로이면서 상업가로인 청주시 성안길을 대상으로 개방감과 공간의 흥미로움을 평가하고, 이에 영향을 미치는 물리적 요소를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 성안길에 대한 개방감은 전체적으로 낮게 평가되었으며, 답답함은 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 또한 흥미로움도 약간 낮게 평가되어, 전체적으로 성안길 내에서의 개방감이나 흥미로움에 있어서 개선이 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 특히 답답함은 성안길 내의 가로환경의 요소에서 기인하는 반면, 개방감과 흥미로움은 성안길 주변의 네트워크 환경까지 연결해서 이용자들이 평가하고 있어, 성안길 내에서의 개선을 위해서는 주변의 네트워크와의 연결을 꾀할 필요가 있다. 보행자전용도로인 상업가로가 갖추어야 할 조건으로 개방성(건축물의 밀집에서 오는 문제점)과 가로공간의 흥미로움(이용자를 끌어들여야 하는 상업가로의 과제)이라할 때, 현재까지의 성안길은 개방성은 허용범위에 있으나, 개방감에 대한 불만과 답답함을 느끼기 시작한 단계라고 보아진다. 개방감, 개방감 불만, 답답함, 흥미로움의 4개 항목 간에는 상관관계가 있으므로, 낮은 개방감의 원인에 대한 해결을 개방감의 문제로만 파악할 것이 아니라, 개방감에 대한 불만, 답답함, 그리고 흥미로움과 관련이 있는 항목들 간의 연계를 통해 해결해 나갈 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This study aims to evaluate sense of openness and interest in Seong-An Gil, Cheongju city and to ascertain factors influencing to them. This street is supposed to be lacked sense of openness because buildings are as thick as herrings by commercial area. Nevertheless, this street has to attract user’s attention with interest by commercial benefits. In this viewpoint, to evaluate sense of openness and interest on Seong-An Gil and to ascertain factors influencing to them are necessary in order to revive a stagnant commerce of the street. For that, questionnaires survey and interview were carried out focusing on Seong-An Gil of Cheongju city. The result is as follows. First, evaluators feel lower in sense of openness and interest on that street and it is in need of improvement of street environment. Closeness was caused by elements existing within the street environment while sense of openness and interest were attributed to elements existing surrounding the street. Second, denseness of buildings is evaluated as the physical element of sense of openness, height of buildings is mainly caused as dissatisfaction on sense of openness, the excessive contact with other pedestrians is mainly caused as closeness, and various shops are caused as the element of interest. Respondents evaluated not to get dissatisfaction on senses of openness by denseness of buildings; however, they began to feel closeness by denseness of buildings. Third, bump between pedestrians is evaluated as the reason of closeness. To improve crowded pedestrian volume of the street is to solve the potential dissatisfaction on senses of openness. Finally, it is necessary to establish a strategy that value and meaningfulness of Seong-An Gil as historical place are related to attractiveness and interest to that street.
