초록

제주도의 감물염색은 오랜 전통이 있다. 자연염색의 일종으로서 사용 시 건강에 좋을 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 장점으로 인해 소비자에게 계속 애용되고 있다. 따라서 꾸준한 재료와 디자인 개발이 지속적으로 이루어지는 실정이다. 그러나 소비자의 구매 욕구는 항상 변화를 요구한다. 때문에 재료에 대한 지속적인 개발은 필수불가결한 요소이다.
본 연구에서는 갈천 의류의 칼라와 소매는 물론 섬유제품에서 안과 밖이 동시에 보여야 하는 디자인의 설계 및 제작과 관련하여 논지를 전개하였다. 갈천의 양면에 서로 상이한 색상의 천을 필요한 곳에 활용 할 수 있도록 감물의 양면2색 동시 염(발)색 할 수 있는 방법을 연구하였다.
감물염색원단의 양면 2색 동시 염(발)색의 효과를 내기 위한 방법으로, 주재료는 감물을 사용하여 4번 발색과 8번 발색하였다.
복합염색으로는 자연염재인 울금(yellow계열), 오배자(gray계열), 포도껍질(red, blue계열)을 사용하였으며. 감물염색 4번 발색, 8번 발색 후 자연염색(울금, 오배자, 포도껍질)하고, 자연염색(울금, 오배자, 포도껍질) 후 감물염색하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다.
감물염색은 천의 한 쪽 면만 계속적으로 햇볕을 쬐게 하여야만 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 나타났다. 전, 후면의 색상 차이는 0~3단계로 구분되었으며, 명도와 채도의 간극은 0~2.5의 단계까지 벌어져 전, 후면의 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다.
전, 후면의 발색 상태는 색상 톤에 따른 반복 염색과 감물 염색과 자연 염색의 선후 관계에 따라 차이를 보였다. 먼저, 중간 톤의 4번 발색보다 짙은 톤의 8번 발색을 이용한 것에서 색상이 짙을수록 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 더 나타났다. 감물염색과 자연염색의 선후 관계는 감물염색을 먼저 한 후에 자연염색 한 표본이, 자연염색 먼저 한 후에 감물염색 한 표본보다 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 도드라졌다. 또한 후면의 감물색상이 옅을수록 자연염색의 색상이 더 잘 나타나는 양상을 보였다. 특히 감물색상과 자연염색이 보색에 가까울수록 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 두드러지는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
옷감의 종류 중에 실크, 포프린, 광목은 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 나타났으며, 천의 두께가 두꺼울수록 전, 후면의 색상 차이는 더 벌어졌다. 상대적으로 짜임이 성긴 모시와 삼베의 경우, 햇볕의 투과율이 높아 전, 후면의 색상 차이가 적게 나타났다.
위와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 갈천의 양면 2색이 동시에 나타나게 되는 것이 가능하다는 결론에 도달하였다. 갈천 의류와 소품의 디자인과 제작에 양면 2색이 들어가는 염색법을 활용하여, 제주도 감물산업에 더욱 박차를 가할 수 있기를 바란다.

영어초록

Dyeing cloth with the astringent juice of persimmons in Jeju-do has been traditionally inherited from old times, and continuously used by consumers up until today because it is good for health as a kind of natural dyeing and its materials and designs have been developed constantly. However, consumer's purchasing needs always cry out for change, and so the development work of its materials should be made continuously.
This essay studied a method to perform a simultaneous two-color formation(dyeing) of the two sides of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons to make sure that the cloths with different colors in both sides of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons will be utilized at the place where they are required, when we make a design that can show both the inside and outside parts in a collar and sleeve of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons, or a textile product at the same time and actually manufacture it.
With respect to its methodology, the main materials undergo the color formation processes four times and eight times using the astringent juice of persimmons in order to create a simultaneous two-color formation of the two sides of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons, and use natural dyeing materials such as turmeric (yellow series), Chinese galls (gray series) and grape skins (red and blue series) for complex dyeing. Natural dyeing (tumeric, Chinese galls, and grape skins) after the color formation processes [are performed] four times and eight times and Dyeing with the astringent juice of persimmons after natural dyeing (tumeric, Chinese galls, and grape skins).
The results of the study are as follows:Dyeing cloth with the astringent juice of persimmons showed the difference of colors in the front and back sides of a cloth if only one side of the cloth should be exposed to sunlight continuously. The steps of the color difference in the front and back sides of the cloth appeared up to three steps, 0~3, with the difference between brightness and chroma appearing from 0~2.5 steps, and so we could see that there was a difference between the front and back sides of the cloth.
The darker the color after eight times of dark tone color formation was than that after four times of middle tone color formation, the bigger the color difference appeared to be in the front and back sides of the cloth. The naturally dyed cloth after being dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons first showed a bigger color difference in the front and back sides of the cloth than that dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons after being dyed naturally first, and the lighter the backside color was, the better the colors of natural dyeing appeared to be.
The closer to the complementary color the color of the astringent juice of persimmons and that of natural dyeing went, the bigger the color difference of the front and back sides of the cloth appeared to be. Silk, poplin and cotton cloth showed a color difference in the front and back sides of the cloth, and the thicker the cloth was, the bigger the difference of the backside color appeared to be. However, a loosely knitted hemp cloth showed a relatively small color difference of the front and back sides of the cloth well because it had an excellent penetration ratio of sunlight.
We could see from these results that it came to be possible for the two color formation of the both sides of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons to appear at the same time. We hope that a good manufacturing and design of the cloth dyed with the astringent juice of persimmons will help the cloth dyeing industry with the astringent juice of persimmons in Jeju-do develop further in the future.
