초록

The article focuses on the relation between New Thoughts of the Cultural Revolution and Discourses of the Democratic Wall Movement in the late 1970s. It is clear that ‘New Thoughts’ of the Cultural Revolution has a relation with the discourses of ‘the Democratic Wall Movement’, but it is still not clear what kind of relation there is between them. Author examines the discursive context of ‘New Thoughts’ of the Cultural Revolution by comparing two different versions of Chen Erjin(陳爾晉)’s essay. “On Proletarian Democratic Revolution”, published in Si-Wu Luntan(四五論壇) in 1978, has early version, called as “On the Privileged Class”, but the former focuses on the theoretical question (for example, what kind of the structural problems does Socialism society have?) rather than the practical question (for example, what do we have to do in order to fix the structural problems?) while the latter emphasize the both question. Author argues that the change was brought about in political environment in the late 1970s, paying attention to the official gazette for the third plenary session of the eleventh party central committee in 1978 and Deng Xiaoping(鄧小平)’s speech at the forum on the principles for theoretical work in 1979. The official gazette made room for activists of the Democratic Wall Movements to discuss the theoretical frame for Chinese society of the time, and Deng’s speech added urgency to their jobs.
