초록

This study set out to examine the creation of a traditional fairy tale to pursue multicultural values with a tale as a way to promote a multicultural understanding among children. The study analyzed the works belonging to the category of "Fox Wife" among the tales about marriage between man and animal as they mainly concern the formation and maintenance of husband-wife relationships and are useful for interpreting the relationships between the subject and others in relation to the situations of multicultural families. The tales of the "Fox Wife" type include "Fox Wife," "Centipede Wife," and "Fox Wife Good at Weaving." Those three tales share common features such as marriage between man and animal and the husband raising questions about the identity of the wife and confirming it. However, their ends are different according to whether the husband trusts the wife or not. "Fox Wife" and "Centipede Wife" wrap up the story with a happy ending as the husband trusts the wife, whereas "Fox Wife Good at Weaving"gives a catastrophic end due to the husband's doubts.
It is required to accept the narrative development of "Fox Wife" and "Centipede Wife" in order to turn them into a fairy tale according to the planned intentions of promoting a multicultural understanding and encouraging awareness changes. It is also required to supplement them with conflicting factors and fantasy in order to give the readers movement and fun as a fairy tale. A traditional fairy tale "Fox Wife" is the result of rewriting a tale by implementing multicultural values,securing probability, and taking fantasy at the level of children into account. Most of all, the tale was reinterpreted in a way that the boundaries between man and animal and between the subject and others would break down and that they would accept each other as they were. Such an ending was an attempt to help "Fox Wife" settle down as a narrative of hopes in the multicultural era by pursuing an ideal value of mutual coexistence between the subject and others.
