초록

이 글은 법화와 밀교사상을 아우른‘법밀종’의 일상의례는 어떠해 야 하는가를 논의해 본 글이다. 불교사상의 정형화된 양태라고 할 수 있는 불교의 의례에는‘교조에 대한 예경의식’,‘ 목표하는 깨달음을 이루려는 수행 방법의 일종의 송주의식’,‘ 수행으로 얻은 성취로, 아 직 깨달음을 얻지 못한 이들에게 베푸는 보시의 시식(施食)의식’등 다양하게 존재한다. 이 글에서는 법밀종 의례의 생성이라는 시론적 고찰이지만 한국불 교의 보편적 현상을 바탕으로 의견을 개진하였다. 왜냐하면 한국불 교 전반의 보편적인 정서를 감안하지 않으면 전법(傳法)에 장애가 될 수 있기 때문이다. 첫째, 예경의식은 신앙하는 대상의 조상(造像)에 맞는 소례(所禮)예 경의 등장이 필요하다. 가령 법밀종 본찰 구원사 법당에 모셔 놓은 존 상이 석가모니불·다보불·묘법연화경·본화보살이므로“일심경례 석가모니불, 일심경례 다보불, 일심경례 묘법연화경, 일심경례 본화 보살”등으로 생성되어야 하며, 물론 예경 실행에 적합하게‘불보살’ 에 대한 수식어휘를 삽입하여 유려한 문장으로 활용할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 송주의식은, 법밀종이 법화와 밀교를 아우른 수행을 표방하 므로, 삼매를 닦는 현교(顯敎)와 다라니를 염송하는 밀교의 수행법이 쌍수(雙修)돼야 한다. 송주는 법화와 밀교를 거론하지 않더라도 동아 시아 불교권의 보편적인 수행 양상이므로 수용할 필요가 있다. 특히 밀교 수행의례에 걸맞은 수인(手印)·관상(觀想)·진언염송의 삼밀가 지를 추구할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 시식의식은 수행의 공덕으로 널리 회향하는 의례이므로 법화 밀교를 추구하는 종단에서는 수행의례가 여법하게 봉행될 필요가 있 다. 시식의식은 대승불교 6바라밀의 첫 번째 실천 덕목인 보시바라밀 을 실천하는 것으로, 동아시아 불교권에서 널리 행해지고 있는 수륙 재, 몽산시식 등이 다 이에 해당한다. 특히 이 글에서는‘새벽에 사찰 경내를 돌며 경전을 외우는’한국불교의‘도량석(道場釋)’을 밀교의 시식의식인 도량을 푸는 의식으로 이해하고 소개하였다. 종교는 의례를 통해서 자신의 고요한 사상과 모습을 드러낸다. 의 례를 통해 수행자들은 자신의 목적을 달성하고, 의례를 통해 함께하 는 구성원들의 자기동일성을 함양해 주므로, 사상과 신념에 부합하 는 의례를 생성해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This essay is to consider what the daily protocol in Beopmiljong(法密宗) should be, which is a Buddhist sect combining the Lotus Flower and the thought of Esoteric Buddhism. Buddhist protocol, which can be said the formulaic manner of Buddhist thought, contains‘ Yegyeong(禮敬, worship) rites for the head of a religious sect’, Songju(誦呪, recitation of dharani) rites as a kind of religious practice in order to accomplish the aiming enlightenment, Sisik(施食, banguet) rites which is Bosi(布施, offering) the achievement by discipline to sentient beings who don’t attain enlightenment’, etc. Here, the view based on the universal phenomenon of Korean Buddhism is stated, though it is a preliminary study on the formation of the rites in Beopmiljong(法密宗). It is because Jeonbeop(傳法, Transmission of the Dharma) would be hindered, without taking into consideration of the universal emotion of Korean Buddhism. First, Yegyeong(禮敬, worship) rites require the appearance of Sorye(所禮, the parties receiving worship) Yegyeong (worship) corresponding with the statues of the object whom to believe in. For instance, because Seokkamonibul(釋迦牟尼 佛, S´akya- muni Buddha), Abundant Treasures Buddha(多寶佛, Prabhu-taratna), the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma(妙法蓮華經, Saddharma Pun.d. arl -ka Su-tra), Bonwha Bodhisattva(本化菩薩, Bodhisattva edified by original true Buddha) as sacred images are enshrined in the Dharma Hall in Guwonsa(Guwon temple), the headquarter of Beopmiljong, “worship with one mind Seokkamonibul(S´akya- muni Buddha), worship with one mind Abundant Treasures Buddha(Prabhu-taratna), worship with one mind the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma(Saddharma Pun.d. arl -ka Sutra), worship with one mind Bonwha Bodhisattva(Bodhisattva edified by original true Buddha)”should be formed, and it makes sure that a flowing and elegant style need to utilize with applying the epithet to‘ the Buddha and Bodhisattvas’ suitable for practicing Yegyeong(worship). Songju(誦呪, chanting dharani) rites should be practiced balancing exoteric teaching(顯敎) that is to cultivate samadhi and esoteric teaching(密敎) that is to recite mystic phrase(dha-ran.l -) simultaneously, because Beopmiljong(法密宗) claims to stand for the discipline combining the Lotus Flower and Esoteric Buddhism. Songju(chanting dharani) is the universal method of meditation and thus it should be accepted, even if the Lotus Flower and Esoteric Buddhism are not mentioned. Especially, Three secrets Adhis.t. ha-na(三密 加持) of Mudra(手印, the hand seal), Contemplation(觀想) and Chanting Mantra(the true word) should be pursuit, suitable for the discipline protocol in Esoteric Buddhism. Third, Sisik(施食, banguet) rites is to transfer one’s merit(guna) of discipline to others widely and so one uphold and practice them in concord with the law. Sisik(banguet) rites is to practice the Perfection of Generosity (Dana Paramita) which is the first item of virtue among the Six Paramitas(Perfections) in Mahayana(Great vehicle) Buddhism and include Suryukjae(水陸齋, the offering ritual for land and water) and Mongsan Sisik(蒙山施食, the Manual for Sisik by Rev. Mongsan) which are abroad throughout East Asian Buddhism. In particular, Doryangseok(道場釋, the early morning bell chant) in Korean Buddhism which is performed by going round the Dharma Halls reciting Buddhist scriptures at dawn is understand and introduced as Sisik(banguet) rites of Esotric Buddhism, the rites wrapping up Bodhi-mandala(道場). Religion shows its own thought and identity through the rites. Practitioners attain their aim through the rites and the partakers promote communal spirit through the rites, and thus the protocol in accord with its thought and faith should be created.
