초록

본 연구에서는 교회개척에 대한 이론적 기초를 세우기 위해 교회의 의미와
교회개척의 정의와 중요성 그리고 교회개척의 원리를 살펴보았다. 그 세부적
인 내용으로서 교회의 의미에서는 교회의 어원적 의미와 교회의 특성적 의미
를 고찰하였다. 교회개척의 정의는 신앙적인 불모지를 복음으로 개간하여 부
름 받고 선택받은 자들을 모으는 것이다. 교회개척의 중요성은 교단의 발전적
차원에서, 복음 전파라는 대 사명을 감당하는 선교적 차원에서, 예수님의 재
림을 준비하는 종말론적 차원에서 참으로 중요한 것이다. 그리고 교회개척의
신학적 이해에서는 교회개척을 선교 신학적 관점에서 고찰하였다.
교회개척에 대한 역사적 이해로써 구약시대의 이스라엘 민족적인 신앙 공
동체가 교회를 의미한다는 이해와 회당 중심의 신앙생활이 교회의 모습으로
이해할 수 있다. 신약의 교회개척은 예수 그리스도의 지상명령과 동일 선상에
서 이루어지고 있다. 이에 따라 사도들은 복음을 전하는 곳에 새로운 교회를
개척하여 세워나갔다. 또한 교회개척의 역사적 고찰에서는 바울의 교회개척
역사와 초대교회 시대와 중세, 근대 시대에 이르기까지 시대마다의 교회 개척
의 역사를 간략하게 살펴봄으로써 교회개척의 역사를 한 눈에 볼 수 있도록
정리하였다. 이어서 한국교회의 교회개척의 역사를 시대별로 구분하여 정리
했다. 한국교회의 선교역사와 교회성장의 역사는 교회개척의 역사라고 볼 수
있다. 선교초기부터 교회개척이 시작되었고, 장로교의 네비우스 선교방식에
따른 교회개척이 대표적인 실례라고 볼 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 한국의 경제성
장과 함께 한국교회의 교회개척의 눈부신 발전의 속도는 선교역사에 경이적
인 기록이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 교회개척의 역사는 1990년대 이후
로부터 급속히 둔화되기 시작했고, 그 결과 교회성장이 정체가 되면서 이제는
마이너스 성장이라는 위기를 가져왔음을 살펴보았다. 이와 같이 한국교회의
둔화와 마이너스 성장의 현실을 살펴 본 결과 한국교회의 교회성장이 둔화된
그 주된 원인이 교회개척이 예전보다 안 되고 있다는 것을 발견하게 되었다.
본 연구의 결론은 교회개척이 교회성장과 복음전파와 선교역사에 얼마나
중요한지를 이해 위해서는 다음과 같은 연구가 필요하다.
첫째, 교회의 의미와 교회개척의 정의, 그리고 교회개척의 원리와 신학적
인 이해가 전제되어야 한다는 것이다.
둘째, 교회개척에 대한 성경적인 이해와 사도들과 바울의 교회개척의 역
사, 초대와 중세시대와 근대시대의 교회개척의 역사를 이해해야 하며, 시대마
다 교회개척의 원리와 방법들이 무엇이었는지를 연구해야 한다는 점이다.
셋째, 한국교회의 부흥의 역사와 교회개척의 역사가 어떤 관계를 가지고
있으며, 한국교회의 교회개척의 원리가 무엇이었는지를 고찰하고, 또한 한국
교회의 침체와 감소의 원인이 어디에 있는지를􀀀 분석하고 연구하여 오늘날 교
회개척에도 적용해야 한다는 것이다. 􀀀
한국교회의 부흥의 시대가 끝났다고 하며, 이제 정체기를 지나 침체기에
빠져서 마이너스 성장을 하고 있는 한국교회의 현실을 바라보면서 한국교회
의 성장과 부흥의 비결은 교회개척이라고 다시 한 번 확신한다. 왜냐하면 세
계 선교역사나 한국교회 부흥과 성장의 역사에서 볼 때, 가장 중요한 성장과
부흥의 요소 중에 하나가 교회개척에 있었음을 부인할 수 없기 때문이다.

영어초록

In this study, the meaning of church, the definition and
impor tance of church planting and the principle of church
planting were examined in order to establish the theoretical
foundation on church planting. In specific, the etymological
meaning of church and the characteristic meaning of church were
examined in the meaning of church. The definition of church
planting is to gather those who have been called and chosen by
cultivating religious wasteland through the gospel. Church planting
is crucially importance from the developmental level of religious
body as well as the missionary level of fulfilling the Great
Commission of spreading the gospel and the eschatological level
of preparing for the Second Advent of Jesus. In addition, church
planting was examined from the theological aspect of mission in
the theological understanding on church planting.
In regards to the historical understanding on church planting, it
can be understood through the fact that the religious community
of Israel in the Old Testament signifies church and that the
religious life centering the temple signifies the appearance of
church. The church planting in the New Testament is occurring on
the same line with the Great Commission by Jesus. The apostles
accordingly planted new churches where they spread the gospel.
Additionally, in the historical examination of church planting, the
church planting history was briefly examined from the church
planting history of Paul to the church planting history in the early
church era, the Middle Ages and modern times in order to
overview the history of church planting. In addition, the church
planting histor y of the Korean church was classi fied and
summarized according to period. The history of mission and the
growth of church of the Korean church can be seen as the history
of church planting. Church planting began since the early period
of mission and the church planting according to the Nevius
method of mission of Presbyterian can be seen as the
representative case of church planting. Fur thermore, the
remarkably fast speed of advancement in the church planting of
the Korean church can be seen as an amazing record in the history
of mission along with the economic growth of Korea. However,
such history of church planting began rapidly slowing down since
the 1990s resulting in the stagnation of the church growth that has
now become negative growth. Accordingly, it was discovered from
examining the reality of the slowdown and negative growth of the
Korean church that its main cause is less active church planting
than that in the past.
As for the conclusion of this study, the following study is needed
in order to understand the crucial importance of church planting
in the church growth, spreading of the gospel and the history of
mission.
First, the meaning of church, the definition of church planting,
the principle of church planting and the theological understanding
must be presupposed.
Second, it is necessary to have a scriptural understanding on
church planting, the history of church planting by the apostles and
Paul and the history of church planting in the early period, the
Middle Ages and modern times. In addition, the principles and
methods of church planting according to period must be examined.
Third, it is necessary to examine the relation between the
revival history of the Korean church and the history of church
planting as well as the principle of church planting of the Korean
church. In addition, the cause of the stagnation and reduction of
the Korean church must be analyzed and studied in order to apply
it today’s church planting.
As they say that the era of revival of the Korean church has now
ended, I am convinced once again that the secret to the growth
and revival of the Korean church is in church planting as I see the
reality of the Korean church that is experiencing negative growth
upon going through the period of standstill and stagnation. The
reason for this is because it cannot be denied that church planting
is one of the most important elements of growth and revival in the
history of world mission as well as the history of the revival and
growth of the Korean church.
